  1. I know everyone thinks their club is the best but come on, get real please. It's not 1996, there is nothing special to an outsider about Newcastle United these days. I have to agree. What glamour? What mystique? This is not the mid 90s any more. Bentley would have been, what, 10 years old then? Footballers these days just want to play at the highest level. If you're not in the CL, there's a fucking huge gap to bridge. The only club outside the top four with a chance of signing him, imho, is Spurs, and that is because they are in London, which is more of a factor these days than it was before. And that's still asking him to put his faith in a club which is struggling to break the top half of the table, let alone the Champions League.
  2. He obviously wants to play in the Champions League, and for the foreseeable, that means one of four (or, in his case, three) clubs. Anything else just won't happen. I reckon talk of KK talking him around is fanciful in the extreme, as is the thought of him joining any of the other chasing pack - Everton, Man City, Spurs (not that they're doing much chasing), Portsmouth etc etc. What would be the point? Observe: Take a look at what Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are doing tonight. That's what he wants to be doing, and who can blame him?

"Everton FC welcomes Liverpool fans to Merseyside", banner at Anfield. Ha.
  5. http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/9311/peterwithelz3.jpg Legend. Class when he tried to tackle that dog. When we signed him, people were saying "surely we can sign better players than that". Saunders said "he's the final piece in the jigsaw". We looked at him as if he was having some kind of nervous breakdown and losing the plot. He was right. Trust in the manager. Zat Knight however ......

  7. I fucking hope we get shot of Petrov this summer. I'll add another underperformer, too. Gareth Barry. Wretched second half of the season. This is lazy journalism though: 3 goals but only 1 start.
  8. One good season. Following season was rubbish. 4m for him = good move.
  9. That's a bit harsh on Harewood. I was horrified when we sign him, but it hasn't turned out too bad. He's done alright for a bench warmer. Scored good goals at Liverpool and Reading, too. Only started for the first time yesterday. He's no world beater, but he's not mean to be. I can't believe I'm saying this but shipping Luke Moore out and moving Harewood up a place has been a good move. Moore is a sulky arsed slouch who is in the process of pissing it all away. Zat Knight on the other hand, I fully agree with. Again, don't mind having him as a 4th choice or something, but playing him ahead of Cahill and then selling the latter is weird.

Ground emptying rapidly and the Villa fans are singing 'fuck off back to London la la la lah". Brilliant.

NRC at right back for fuck's sake. Petrov on the pitch, for fuck's sake. Bright side, no Knight. My prediction? Bumming. Facial.

    Reyes a Target

Newcastle is as multicultural as London tbh. It might be as multicultural (well, it isn't is, it, by a f****** long shot, but that isn't the point), but its also nowhere near as interesting. Two points: 1) If London wasn't interesting enough for him,. NEwcastle won't be. LEts not get the pathetic provincial blinkers on about that. 2) Why the f*** woudl he want to come here? And dont say f****** Keegan. No player of his age gives a toss about Keegan. I fear we're too small a club for him. Are you pissed? Good job you don't work to try and promote are region. Having worked in London and born and bred in the toon I think Our region is as every bit as interesting as London (IMO). Secondly, I reckon he's the kind of player that should come to NUFC; hes far better than any of our midfielders by the way and Keegan would get the best out of him. No offence, mate, but have you been taking a large quanity of narcotics? London is one of a handful (ie about 3) global megacities. There is only one city in Europe that even comes near London, and it isn't Newcastle or any other British city. And as for having heard of Keegan's side of the 90s, Reyes is of Seville gypsy stock. He''d have been a teenager in the mid 90s. How closely do we really think he'd have kept tabs on Keegan's side of the era? I love football. It makes us all don enormous blinkers and throw reason to the wind.

    Reyes a Target

Hang on. When he left the Arse, didn't Reyes go on at length about how he couldn't settle in London, with its lack of things to do, and shops which closed every now and then? So he can't settle in the most multicultural city in the world, but he's expected to settle in Newcastle? Or anywhere else in the UK for that matter? Disaster waiting to happen.
  14. That makes him sound like some kind of dashing hero Galloping calamity, more like.

    Today's other games

I've never read a forum where people watch as much football as you lot do on here. Not talking about tonight in particular, but usually when I see a 'Todays Other Games' thread, I know there'll be someone there talking about the second half of Levante v Getafe or something. Impressive. I sometimes wish I were single. It'd be a toss up whether I wanked myself to death, drank myself to death, or lost my sight through staring at televised football for 24 hours.
  17. I'll never forget the day I heard we had signed Zat Knight. Sadly. Dawson is like a white Knight.
  18. Mellberg (who has indeed gone to Juve on a Bosman) is on a downward curve and has been for a while now. He's a good example. What would be the point for a player like him to make a "sideways" move (ie one to the non top 4 chasing pack)? He's done what players do these days, looked after number one and gone for the pay day and experience of playing at a club like Juventus, although it will clearly be a come down playing in front of such shit attendances. How ironic. Good luck to the guy. Great servant to the club. he's about 30, right ? Might be 31, but around that age, yes.
  19. Roland Don't really see your logic ?? It's not about how good a player is, it's about market value, and Zoggy has a pretty high market value, not as high as Bentley's admittadly but certainly nowhere near the gap you are trying to portray. If Bentley moves he'll fetch around 15 - 18 mill, IMO. But Zoggy will go for around 10 mill IMO, the likes of West ham and Spuds will be only too happy to stump that amount up for him. Villa too could be interested. Just got the feeling that anywhere but Newcastle will do for Zoggy atm. We've got enough options on the left, it is the right where we're f*****. I bet he goes to West Ham. absolute tosh about your valuation. Bentley is English and at the top of his game getting rave reviews. NZog is a squad player at an average club with a questionable temperament Not my valuation. Observe quotes

  21. I hope he's in our central defence instead of Knight next week, I know that much.
  22. He's a decent player with a top notch attitude.
