Don't really see much of a difference on the pitch between Hughton and Pardew. If there's one factor that validates the decision to replace the former with the latter, it would be Hughton allegedly allowing the likes of Barton, Nolan, and Smith to take a larger leadership role, which worked great in the Championship but obviously would have been problematic in the long term. Unfortunately none of us really know for sure what happened behind closed doors. Tactically neither has really ever done anything special. We're better now because we have better players.

It's a lot easier for a smaller club to keep a good goalkeeper than players in other positions. Then again, we shouldn't have to worry about it at all given that we're looking at a title challenge and champions league football.
