  1. That’s the problem with online blackjack. You have no way of verifying whether the software is actually following real odds. (and for what it’s worth, craps is better!)
  2. I am now mostly just concerned that he's thick enough to be putting large sums of money on online Blackjack.

    Our owners would approve
  4. If he bet on games that he's playing I don't really care what the punishment is, I don't want him ever putting on our shirt again.
  5. Who knows what this even means but if he's been betting on games, I imagine that would result in a pretty hefty suspension.
  6. Given the amount of injuries in the squad and the opposition our results for this run of games has been preposterously good. If anyone is actually feeling gloomy after a draw today, I admire their commitment to pessimism.
  7. It doesn’t have to be Chris Wood but I wouldn’t mind a cheap-ish striker who can eat some minutes.
  8. I think it’s very clear from the posts on here that the squad is incredibly solid and we’re all struggling to find urgent needs that probably aren’t really there. I think philosophy going forward should really just be to buy whenever we can get a good player at a good price, rather than chasing targets in a particular position. We don’t have gaping holes that need to be filled asap.

I think I'm being pretty calm If you think that the mere invocation of the word "misogyny" constitutes aggression or abuse, that's probably a you problem and not a me problem.

Nobody gives a shit about "hanging with your boys." The problem is that people in positions of power make decisions about hiring etc. based on the exact same thought process.

Of course. As men, we are generally more comfortable around and familiar with men. So aside from sexual partners, we generally prefer to surround ourselves with men: socially, in the workplace, in the media we consume etc. It's perfectly natural. ...it's also exactly why women have been systematically excluded from jobs they are perfectly capable of performing (such as football commentary) for decades. Congratulations @KaKa, you've managed to perfectly describe the underlying mechanism of institutional misogyny.

It's fundamentally different though. Women are, for the most part, physically incapable of playing in the Premier League. It's not a matter of personal preference. They just can't do the job. There is absolutely nothing preventing a woman from commentating at the same level as men. If someone nevertheless prefers that commentary be done exclusively by men, then that's their personal preference and they are entitled to it. But I'm also entitled to react by pointing out that it's a dumb and misogynistic preference.

Put it this way, I don't prefer men's football - I prefer Premier League football. If a woman were physically capable of playing in the Premier League then I'd have just as much fun watching her as I do a male player. Possibly more, because I imagine she would have quite the inspiring story. There just hasn't been someone like that yet. On the other hand, women are very much capable of commentating on the same level as men. They just haven't had the opportunity because we've been artificially keeping them out of the profession for ages.

For what it’s worth, if it’s true that there are less good female commentators than male ones, that’s probably because they’ve been systematically excluded from the profession for nearly a century and haven’t had the chance to develop. If you want to fix that in the long run you do have to start force-feeding women opportunities in the short term, to some extent. It may seem like tokenism at times but there’s not another way around it.

Doris is great, but if she ever calls a Celtics-Sixers series again I’m going to lose my shit.

If his "preference" is to not listen to women just because they happen to be women - regardless of whatever other merits they may have commentators - then yes, that's just straight up sexism, which is incredibly dumb. He is entitled to his opinion, of course, but it isn't "PC Culture" to point out that it's a dumb opinion. None of this is new. People who say dumb things have been taking stick for it since the beginning of time. It's just that in the past, we didn't know that blatant sexism was dumb. Now we do. Well, at least most of us do.

Keegan is 70. He's an old man with old man opinions. A product of his time. Of course he's going to have some views that seem antiquated to people who had the benefit of a modern education. As long as it doesn't come from a place of malice, I try to separate my estimation of a person from my estimation of their views. Everyone is entitled to a dumb opinion or two. And truth to be told, the actual substance of what he said doesn't seem that bad. He's just got himself into trouble explaining it in his typical rambling, exaggerated Keegan-ish way.
  18. It's nuts how we still have so many Ashley-era players in the squad and most of them are actually really good. Just brings home the sheer level of mismanagement.
  19. Miley needs some competition for his spot in the U21s.
  20. No point, he'll have a Newcastle shirt of his own soon anyway.
  21. Well fuck it let's just win the whole thing then.
  22. We're not going to have this sort of emotional experience once we get used to winning games in the Champions League. This is a once in a lifetime sort of feeling. Let's enjoy it. Cheers.
  23. Best goal by a Newcastle defender since Albert.
  24. Stunning how utterly irrelevant Mbappe has been tonight.
  25. We have officially entered squeaky-bum time.
