I'd bet money that most Newcastle residents don't even know what Leazes Terrace is or where in the city it is, that's how culturally relevant it is within the city. The people who know of it are those who follow NUFC. Personally I'd knock it down in a heartbeat to build a new SJP.
  2. Down to a 4 for me. Only that high because the gap to 18th is still small and injuries could scupper us. But really, it would be unbelievably depressing to go down now after this turnaround in form and results. There are clearly at least 3 teams worse than us now and that wasn't the case only six weeks ago.

Agree. A new East Stand could be built, more or less on the same footprint, with a much greater capacity IMO.

Dear me. Of course expansion is needed. There are probably 15000 people alone who have walked away from attending matches because of Ashley. Then add in all of the new fans that the club are going to attract. If we are turned into another MUFC/LFC then there needs to be a minimum capacity of 65K. It sounds to me like the ones who say extra capacity is not needed are the ones who already have season tickets.

If they are looking at expanding SJP to 60K+ then they simply must be planning on reacquiring the land at Gallowgate.

From certain vantage points in the Carr Hill / Sheriff Hill / Windy Nook area you can literally look down on the entirety of Tyneside and beyond, viewing the North Sea to the east, the Cheviots to the North and looking towards the Northumberland/Cumbria border to the west. There's a park in Carr Hill that has a hill on it and standing at the top you are literally looking at a whole area of east, north and west that probably covers not far off that 50 miles in radius.

Although it's thoroughly enjoyable seeing how depressed they are at the moment, I still think they will make the play-offs. And if they have momentum I could see them going up. The last few seasons they had lost momentum as the season ended and it carried through into the play-offs. I could see the opposite happening this time.

We can safely rule that one out then. It's Castle Leazes or bust.
  9. Sticking on a 5. This is a 7 team relegation mini-league now and its really impossible to say who will be the unlucky 3 to drop.
  10. They were scathing last week….I guess they will be even worse this weekend…. https://www.villatalk.com/topic/22443-steven-gerrard/page/322/

Location-wise there can only be three spots for any new stadium - the existing SJP footprint, move to Castle Leazes or down to the Arena. Any new stadium MUST be in the city centre though - that is non-negotiable. The most realistic option is revisiting the Castle Leazes proposal. It would have to be on a much grander scale than the one from the 1990s though. I still think that Leazes Terrace could be moved. And I don't buy that the cost would be insane. The main hurdle for that proposal would be getting the permission to do it. For all the talk of a new location though, what is FAR more important is what would the new stadium design be like. It would be imperative that the number one requirement would be a design that created atmosphere, and kept the sound within the stadium. Therefore a proper roof that fully shelters each stand would be essential - not one of these half-roof monstrosities that leave half of the seating areas exposed to the elements.

In the future they may have an owner who is more clued up, but they will never have one that is more generous. Short's flaw was that he employed the wrong people to run the place. The way those tools over the road went on though, you'd think he was the devil incarnate.

Just in case anyone decides to start feeling sorry for them - here is another reminder of their reaction when our takeover hit the buffers in 2020.... https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/june-to-july-2020-nufc.1519229/page-331#post-32095731 Karma. It's such a bitch eh?

They are bigging up William Storey now. Just imagine that happening. This could actually get funnier.

    Bahahahahahaaaaa.
  16. Yep. According to them they have been rubbish to watch under Gerrard. I guess they know best as they watch it every week. But results seemed to show otherwise. If our owners made the decision to give Stevie G a swerve and go for Eddie instead then its looking a good one right now.
  17. Great result today, and tempting to come down to a 4...but I'm sticking on a 5. Injuries could still put us in the clarts and there's a long way to go yet.
  18. Just had a look on Villa Talk and, wow, they are properly turning on Gerrard already. The Mackems would be proud of such kneejerking. https://www.villatalk.com/topic/22443-steven-gerrard/page/288/

The curse of Prince Andrew. https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/could-this-be-the-curse-on-the-club.1572350/#post-35555354 Makes a change from stuff like the North Sea I suppose.
  20. I just think that you cant pick a survivor from the four teams yet. I'm not getting carried away by the last two games. Yes, we now have a bit of momentum but I guarantee that a defeat tomorrow will result in a lot of posters giving a score over 5. As it happens though, I will stay on a 7 if we do lose.
  21. Think they are all on a 7, like us, to be honest. I just think its impossible to say who will drop at the moment. One other team will definitely get dragged into it though over the next few weeks. At the moment that looks to be Brentford. People seem to be basing their confidence on us keeping all of our key players fit but that is impossible to predict too. If we win tomorrow though I will definitely come down to a 6, maybe even a 5.
  22. I think it's crazy how anyone can be anything below a 5. We are improving but tomorrow is a seriously tough game. Then come West Ham. We need to be on 30 points by the time we have played Palace at the end of March, because the majority of the remaining games after that are brutal. Still a 7 for me, despite how results have gone this week.

Hilarious reading the meltdowns over there. And of course, the reactions are wildly OTT. Imagine getting that worked up about a proven failure who has been out of the game for 11 years. As I said earlier though, it was all about Keane’s high profile that was getting them excited and nowt to do with his actual ability. They are utterly desperate to have some media attention. As has been already stated on here though, they have actually dodged a bullet here, and it may be a sign that those running them have an actual plan by holding firm against Keane’s demands. On the other hand, it seems the owners just read RTG and make decisions based on what those nutters are saying. On another note, nice to see that Mackem2017 talks as much relentless shite about his own club as they do about NUFC. Presented himself as a credible ITK right up to this morning, promising all and sundry that Keane was in the bag, the weapons-grade prick.

    Kieran Trippier

He’s going into the NUFC hall of fame, no doubt about it like. Got icon written all of him. Magnificent.
  25. Down to a 7 tonight, probs the lowest I have gone. Long way to go but there is genuine hope now.
