  1. spoke to scouser today (got his YNWA flag up in the workshop) and there was no doubt in his mind about kenny, none, pretty amazing tbh
  2. it would be fucking out of this world if they did like, sadly mourihno has never let something like this slip through his fingers and i can't see why he'd start now

i'd like to see that explained in detail like, can only assume you're using rangers/celtic & blackburn/leicester as a comparison...does it not count in sounesses "achievements" that he basically ruined 2 football clubs single handed? MoN doesn't have that in his locker, unfortunately for him, hey here's hoping he's about to add it now

not sure which part you're missing, all i've personally ever said is that in the grand scheme they'll be considered at a similar level of manager you've offered nothing by way of explanation to suggest why that isn't the case

Aye, could be argued that what O'Neill did at Leicester (still at grotty Filbert Street) on a much, much smaller budget and without the draw of KK was far more impressive than Keegan spending his way to the top of the Premiership, only to blow a 12pt lead. I dislike MON (due to the constant hype he gets from the media) but he genuinely did an amazing job at Leicester and a reasonable one at Celtic (in terms of Europe) - to say that KK is miles better than him is ridiculous. i wouldn't look down on what either of them did or achieved personally, both have their merits, but to outright dismiss MoN (who i also don't really like) as a vastly inferior manager to keegan is unreal
  7. aye, most people are focusing on the fact they won titles before and after it really, had we won the league the next year no-one would ever talk of the 12 points but we didn't did we?
  8. i don't think it's possible for one person to carry a team to anything anymore, be it a world cup, a strong domestic league or the champions league all ticks in the column to stop comparing him to people from the past really

i just don't get it man, winning cups can be disregarded as an achievement but having a team that looked pretty and achieved nothing is the barometer for success?

good teams can win cups too, just not ours apparently

the willingness to belittle his achievements at leicester so easily is beyond me, now the mark of a successful manager is not to win a trophy? he got them in europe, established them in the top flight, won 2 domestic cups and lost another final...it's hardly like he just fucking fluked it is it?

what a load of fucking shit, i'm sorry like i certainly am not trying to get a bite but nor can read this without comment in the above sentence you've just outlined why there's a comparison to be had, keegan had his strengths and also his weaknesses, you can't just ignore the weaknesses because they suit you man i was around during the keegan years and remember it very fondly, he created something special for a short time that had a lasting effect on NUFC for sure...you can't ignore the other periods of his career though, promoted fulham with a lot to spend relatively, was very poor at england, did ok at man city overall but nothing special and looked like he might have a newfound maturity with us the second time around only for it all to blow up we're biased about keegan, and rightly so, but step back and you'd see that his record puts him as a good manager at best, more likely above average MoN achieved a lot with leicester, winning 2 domestic cups, won everything in scotland (fine not gonna overstate that), started well at villa before it fell off and has now come to sunderland and started well again without really having any players of his own choice there's very little between them overall imo other than keegan had the team playing wonderful football for 3-4 seasons, and why shouldn't keegans meltdowns be counted against him out of interest?
  13. arsenal 15 points off the lead, they'd be challenging if they'd not had that crazy preposterous terrible time earlier in the season....hope they win the fucker next year
  14. Felipao91 the one thing you conveniently ignore for your own ends is the power shift that took place in football during the '90's making club competition by far the dominant force in the sport and european club football the most dominant within that it says nothing of the inherent increase in pace, fitness and all round quality that continues as the years tick by....pele could "only beat what was in front of him" or whatever, same for maradona, but the game is almost unrecognisable now from what it was when both of those were in their pomp who was the last person to win a WC "on their own" out of interest? fat ronaldo probably and he was hardly at the spearhead of a team of dogshit cloggers was he? i don't think it's possible for an individual to carry a team to a WC anymore, i don't think it'll happen again
  15. Far from winning against Liverpool I'll be surprised if we don't get beaten comfortably. Liverpool will absolutely dominate possession and while we can get away with giving the ball to poor teams, the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea will murder us IMO. Our best bet is winning the games against lesser teams like Swansea and Bolton. aye, i think liverpool will tear us apart barring them completely losing their minds or someone doing something reckless...suarez & gerrard both starting to play
  16. They are much more dominant at home, but their away record compared to last season is pretty awful. my assumption too, they've drawn 5 and lost 2 away this seaon - what about last season and before?
  17. i can't find anything to compare their current away form and stats with the preceding seasons so i've not really got any more to say on it tbh
  18. Incredible stat but why does it matter if Barca are having their worst season in almost 4 years? Andy Johnson scored plenty for a bad Crystal Palace side, Yakubu is scoring for Blackburn. And also Barca are on track to score more this season than last, so your last part is irrelevant. Messi is incredible, win a world cup and prove you can win outside your comfort zone with Xavi, Dani Alves, Iniesta and Cesc providing you with tons of assists and we will discuss it. Maradona was excellent, and if Messi doesnt win a World Cup he wont be conssidered the greatest in his home nation. Oh and Pele > Maradona. if barca were dominating away games as they'd done in the few seasons prior to this one there's a strong chance he'd have scored more goals so aye, it has some relevance
  19. i wonder what the highest someone in a "top" division has scored in a single season, i.e. spain, england (ahem), italy, germany
  20. what other reason is there for him still being at the club then?
  21. he still retains some value as a footballer, potentially, ashley would never release see barton, joseph

don't you mean once, at villa? Villa's really the only real barometer though. His side at Leicester was fairly basic and route one and it's hard to judge his time in Scottish football with it being a sub-standard league. He spent a lot of money at Villa to stand still. leicester weren't great but they certainly weren't hoofball merchants either, lets not forget he won the league cup twice with them as well this is getting out of hand, let's assume there are the following broad categories of manager: shit poor average above average good great o'neill is somewhere between above average and good for me, keegan for a time burned between good and looking great but ultimately he'll never be viewed as anything more than above average imo
