amusing me this now, pretty amazing none of us considered it was a possibility as for "how can the fa do this when he's been tried by the courts?" i'm kind of amused by this too i stand to be corrected but in registering as a professional footballer in this (and presumably every other) country do you not sign up to the rules and regulations of the game that i'd imagine includes a code of conduct? they're all members of the football association, right? so if one member is proven to have physically assaulted another (he admitted guilt) are they not just upholding the laws of their own organistion - i'd expect they'd be able to do the same had barton kicked his teeth in in a nightclub or wherever if a pro tennis player beat another tennis player to fuck on the practice courts then i'd expect the PTA (?) to impose sanctions on them, same for golf or whatever i'm well aware this reads like bullshit before anyone starts, but i think i might be right

anyone remember cantonas actual FA ban? iirc man u actually took the step themselves to ban him for 6 months (was it?) before the FA had had time to act be very intersting to compare the two when bartons ban eventually gets handed down
-
Let's look on the bright side - maybe this development will finally instill a sense of urgency upon Messrs Ashley & Wise to get some players in ASAP to strengthen the midfield... don't see it myself, reckon they'll take a "we'll get by" attitude or even appeal the inevitable ban so he can play until it's resolved so far the current ownership don't strike me as the type see any benefit in signing a player when they've got a 6m one sitting about getting paid for nothing hope i'm wrong though
-
hm, potentially facing a third of the season now with butt, geremi, guthrie & SMITH as our CM's....then probably the next 10 games while barton gets match fit/pace after his ban happy days indeed

Fabricio Coloccini signed from Deportivo La Coruña on 5 year deal
mrmojorisin75 replied to Cronky's topic in Football
"I hope we haven't put this this special Scout-Continental Contacts-Deal Closers on the payroll just to rush through a couple of transfers in the last week of August. Window has been open for 1 month and tbh, i'm underwhelmed. Players need pre-season with their new team-mates to hit the ground running." really good, fair comments there i'd argue - some won't have it though, as you say we used to do pretty well at last minute deals before the window closes so what the fuck did we put 3 people on the payroll for? so they could do the same thing only quieter? -
yeah but diouf had the game of his (and probably anyone he's ever met) life and set it up on a plate for him in fact wasn't it a saved diouf shot and the wardrobe came and poked it in?

would love him to sign; colloccini, spiderpig, plus pick up a couple more argies along the way (an absolute animal of a DM & a striker say) - get a little enclave of corned beef eaters trampling all over the EPL -
you alright man? i'm starting to worry...
-
a few weeks? mate it's August tomorrow Better to wait a few weeks to get the right player and save a few million than getting a worser player or spending money unnecessarily. i'd agree with you, but defenders like Coloccini generally grow on trees that want to be nowhere near 12th placed clubs. I'm convinced that we cannot do better than him. Agreed. thirded

-
yup, hope they do sign him...isn't he a year older than berbatov as well? poor move imo

Not every club would allow permission if they were intent on keeping the player. Pleased yes, but hardly a rarity for us to be taking people on trial, the rarity is that we actually signed him. We came close with Francesco Coco in 2005 but turned him down because we didnt think he would play enough games through injury, apparently Souness was right, he has player 31 games over 3 seasons . wasn't that during Roeder's time? .. anyways, I hear Coco went to Hollywood to pursue the American Dream pretty sure Frannie Coco was during the 05-06 pre-season, Souness in that case correct

not in terms of ability man, in terms of physicality which is what you asked me about... terry HAS got the reading of the game and the same sort of physical attributes to taylor, perhaps i wasn't clear there but i'm blaming you 'cause you said you can't sleep
-
He shouldn't be mention in the same breath as either of those tbh. give it 10 years, Taylor has more chance of being mentioned in same breath as JFK than Rio Ferdinand and Sergio Ramos Ok in 3 years we come back to this discussion and we will see who is right you do know that by 22 Ferdinand had already been called up to world cup 98 and euro 00. 2 years later he'd been bought twice to the sum of £48m. Look at Ramos, by 20 he was a regular for his country and his fairly big club. You're being a bit silly here, Taylor has time and time again been shown up by average strikers. If you said that in 3 years time, he'd be comparable to Aaron Hughes, you'd be a bit closer to the mark. p.s. Ramos looking mediocre at the Euro's??? He was bloody colossal all tournament Agree wholeheartedly with Tooj and Ronaldo on this one - Taylor aint in the same class. Needs a footballing brain to start with. taylor has the physical attributes to be a good defenfer, a very good one...if he gets a season or two playing in a stable defence with a leader next to him he'll improve look at how unsettled the defence, team, club and playing staff in general have been since he broke through some people need to give the guy a break - seen people on here talking about selling him FFS!! diabolical mate, i've asked this question a million times but i'm bored and cant sleep so i'll ask it again, what physical attributes exactly does Taylor have??? Physical attributes is just something people say when a player is over 6' and cant play football for s*** look i'm not equating him with ramos or anyone right, i'm saying he could be a good defender 'cause i see someone very similar to john terry he lacks genuine pace but isn't slow by any means, he a big lad but needs to be taught how to use his strength properly and he is reasonable enough on the ball (he's played well enough at right back so he's obviously got enough quality & technique as a CB) what he lacks is the brain/reading of the game, granted, that's why i said he needs training properly in a well drilled defence

That's always how he wins. Thing is though, they're the one's holding all the Aces. Like West Ham did with us over Dyer, let us the board have a bit rant but cave-in. Can't see us attracting anybody better for £10m, so just do it. crucial, excellent point ON - will we dig up another player of the same calibre for the same price? doubtful principles are one thing but even with the additional fee we're still not overpaying imo therefore they should just get it done -
touchy touchy, was just thinking out loud about an idea that occurred to me like they way you discredit it with no supporting evidence whatsoever though by saying it's "daft", as good as my "applecart" one that What supporting evidence do I need other than to show that the idea is untenable, unworkable and unproductive? There's been no club to ever even try to employ a strategy like that and for good reason. It just wouldn't work long term, it would cripple them financially and in the transfer market, the odds of success are roughly zero. And that applecart bit is just more of the same I see on this board from people all too eager to accept any crackpot theory about Ashley as being equally as likely as any other just because hes a "maverick" in the business world. hm, but i never suggested it would be tenable or workable did i? "all legal issues aside we'll be hated, utterly HATED throughout the game & people would simply not do business with us" alls i was saying trying to secure some signings in this manner might appeal to a businessman like ashley (think i said niche in the market right?) as it's cost effective, i don't need any evidence to support that as it may be true it may not be true, but you saying it's not true doesn't make it not true you know that right?
