  1. He have his sights set on more experienced left backs but obviously there aren't any or there just aren't any cash for him thus he couldn't get good proven left backs (giving excuses that there aren't any top class left back in the business now) or the players just simply doesn't want to come. So we've gone from a chairman who backs his manager to one that doesn't. Great. I wouldn't want thanksin to be our chairman despite his cash tbh. agreed - of all of the takeovers that's the one that looks destined to end in tears one way or another....
  2. wind back to his quotes of a few days ago about having to now bring the quantity he wants rather than the quality this might be the case in point?
  3. what did woodgate go to 'boro for? 6.9m? the pricing similarities are there with dyer - the exception being that when woodgate is fit he PERFORMS CONSISTENTLY the fact that dyer performs consistently inconsistently IF FIT should tell anyone that 5m would be a fucken steal
  4. correct. Giving chance tto the youth is the main aim. if they make the grade, you are in great profit. they will be loyal, they will understand the fans and the tradition of the club. people like evans and cathcart are both born united fans ( NI ), have the british grit and understand what united is all about. I saw evans in last years pre season tournament. His eyes were gleaming with joy as he was in the starting line up wearing the united shirt. bringing tears to my fucken eyes man....
  5. one of the strangest things i heard about was from sheff wed mate of mine a few years back says there were a load of pigeons on the pitch in a home match and they were basically getting in the way of everyone at the kop end...got so frustrating for the players that during a break in play danny maddix went accross and tried to shoo them away, the little bastards never moved so he went to stamp on one to move it and it stood still; he crushed it to death on the pitch!!
  6. We have Pique and Evans coming back from loan. Of all the youngsters you will see Evans is the best next season. He is stupendous to say little. He will be the manchester united backbone for the next 10 years. In another 2 years we will have another NI, cathcart who is another excellent prospect. we don't need to spend on our defence because we are getting them from youth academy. righto pal one lad who played for the mackems (stifling laughter) last season and someone who's never even played they're gonna go out and stand up to the likes of milan, inter, chel$ki, barca and real are they if ferdinand and vidic are out todays word is: unbalanced
  7. lets not get carried away, sure they're gonna be good again next season but ANY team can be got at it's why people in football consider england to be the most entertaining league in the world but not the best: teams opposing man u should be able to make it hard for them but largely don't have the tactical nouse to do it man u can buy all the strikers they want but their season nearly came apart last year when they lost 2 defenders to injury.... if you put this man u team in italy they wouldn't win the league 'cause the italians would simply know how to beat them, like ac milan did this season i think managers like fat sam, mourinho, wenger, benitez will show teams how to play them but most weeks they'll pretty much steamroller everyone else in the EPL - they'll lose in europe again unless their first choice defence stays fit and free of suspension
  8. amuses me that it appears to have been approached from a position of condescension (my opinion) when their record for being in europe, and consequently monies earned, compared to us means if anyones looking down on anyone here it's us ain't it? i mean we wouldn't exactly go onto a spurs website quoting an article referencing how much better we are at mid-table mediocrity and skirting with relegation, based on one season now would we? given that over the last 10 years or so they've left us behind in that department....
  9. Never made an anti-Newcastle comment, never mentioned Spurs. Simply copied and pasted the Mail's article. How you interpret that is your problem. Incidentally, I did look around the Uefa site to see if I could verify the figures, I couldn't find anything, maybe you can. i'm intruiged as to your reasons for posting the article in the first place, care to enlighten us?
  10. his opening line plus there's smugness implied in the lack of comment about it for me, indicative of them as a whole at the moment, fucken smartarses the fact that he never commented suggests to me he's trying to prove something instead of saying "bloody hell we only played one more game than you and look at the difference in prize money, hard to believe eh?"
  11. aye,the lesson was learned "don't expect the premier league to act even handedly" did everyone know manu acted as an illegal third party aswell, they made everton drop tim howard for the game against them that won the title. that poor keeper and all man, what was his name? everton 2-0 up and cruising and about to beat man u for the first time in a 100 years or summat AND stitch them for the title then the kid drops a piss easy catch in his 6 yard box and it's over he's probably on electro shock therapy by now
  12. Don't you think it's high time the man who's just taken over the football club we all support, or in this case his second in command, came out and told us what his plans are with his new acquisition? I for one am very curious about his level of commitment to bringing us success or otherwise, and find it rather strange that we, as fans, haven't demanded to be informed of this earlier, before Mr Ashley got hold of our club immeadiatly. We are after all his ´customers´ and in the middle of season ticket renewal.. THIS WILL BE VERY INTERESTING. I am certain he will cover most, hopefully all, of: (1) His Role. (2) Shepherds Role. (3) Ashley's Role. (4) Ashley's 'general' aims and 'general' plans for the club (Premier League Champions / Winning Champions League - or whatever . . . ) Does he (Ashley) see us as being Englands most successful club, long term . . . or just 'competing' at the top with others. (5) Some 'specific' short-term objectives (next season). (6) Hopefully, some 'specific' (time-related) longer-term objectives. (7) Re-development / extension of the ground (Shepherds £300M plans for Conference Centres, Hotels, etc). 8 De-listing the club from the LSE (when and WHY). (9) That money (additional over NUFC earned-income) will be put in to facilitate player purchases - but NO specific figures will be given!! All of the above, and more that I cannot bring directly to mind, are things that I have wanted to know about ever since the Ashley takeover was first mooted. I would find all this very (very) interesting (cannot understand why any of us would not!) and I think that for the FIRST TIME we will actually KNOW (not newspaper speculation) some stuff about our club's likely future, by tomorrow morning!! I take it all back!! I saw it as an opportunity to put a bit more 'flesh on the bones' by providing information to combat speculation. That did not really happen - ah well - speculation continues! A real missed opportunity then by the new people in charge to start building a liaison with their customer base.. In contrast to most people I remain a little sceptic about what their plans are. When the hedge funds came in last year everybody here was understandably worried, yet now a man we know next to nothing about is in charge everybody seems happy enough.. This was a chance for him (through Mort) to take away some of the anxiety and tell us what the plans are. I think we're entitled to know. Of course, most people do not seem to care as they will just presume Mr Ashley will want the very best for us. Somehow, I don't quite believe that a business man who's made a fortune of 2 billion pounds in retailing will see us as a charity, or even a distraction. Chances are his plans with us are not altogether that much different from what the hedge funds would have done, i.e. he's here to make money and the best way to do that in sports is by buying low, investing, (winning things) and selling high. I don't quite understand the difference in level of resistance, but maybe I'm just more cynical than most.. think the insta-optimism about the lad ashley is he's paying cash for the shares and isn't having to mortgage the club in order to buy it that plus the fact his businesses (to my limited knowledge) have all been successful and he's made 1.9bn out of them don't really see where the downside is - he's not gonna take the club over with the intention of pissing away 130m+ is he?
  13. makes no sense how have spurs got more than sevilla from the "market pool"?? in fact more than anyone else in the tournament? what the hell is the market pool anyhow?
  14. What, like Joey Barton? Another temperamental but promising midfielder with a dodgy rep? Fact is that this summer there were three midfielders moving around at (very roughly) the same price - Barton, Parker and NRC. I said a while back I'd have been happy with Barton or NRC, they're both good players. Reo-Coker was playing at an absolute basket case of a club last year, so it is very hard to judge him on that. He got a lot of stick from their fans, but then again, to be honest, a five minute glance at kumb will tell you all you need to know about West Ham fans. These are the same fans who told us that the reason Ashley Young chose Villa over West Ham (despite them apparently offering him something like 10k a week more) was that he had a major problem with the dressing room politics there, and that the main problem was NRC in particular. Something which clearly wasn't borne out during the U21 championship when you could tell they were obviously close (post match interviews, body language on the pitch etc) Anyway, I'm just glad we've signed him. Apparently, SWP is currently choosing between us and them, too, so hopefully he'll come down on the side of the righteous as well. I really can't stand West Ham. And yes, the fee is a little on the high side, but what's the point in having these billionaire owners if you don't get them to push the boat out every now and then? You are giving NRC far too much credit to mention him in the same sentence as Barton IMHO, and i said the same before any of the 3 moved clubs, and nothing has changed. He has a big chip on his shoulder ATM, and even when thats gone the talent is only worth about half of the money Villa have paid. I still think he's a good player in there, but he's a long way off Barton's standard, and right now out of the 3 clubs trading, NUFC got the best deal, and i honestly think WHU came in second by a country mile getting Parker in and NRC out for daft money. here here. NRC's always struck me as an average player who looked decent when he had a high work rate. once he started to slack off at west ham, there was no talent there to cover for it. 8m for him is a reflection of the current inflated prices, if it was based on talent alone i think west ham would be lucky to get half that. Barton's miles better, Parker too. NRC will be a decent player for a mid table club nothing more. my mind goes back to NRC when we played 'em at home and were as lucky as fuck to get a draw as they went 2-0 up he embarrased our midfield as he simply had too much pace, drive and wrokrate for us to keep up with...basically he just kept driving into the space and causing mayhem then someone (be nice to think it was roeder but i doubt it) obviously realised the amount of space he was leaving uncovered behind him so our midfield started to push into THAT space and we hurt west ham on number of occasions when his driving runs came to nothing so, in a nutshell, i'd say he's not a million miles away from kieron dyer in some respects - has obvious attributes but VERY obvious deficiences that are too easy to exploit - if villa play him in a 442 they're fucked or will be if the opposition cotton on we're better off with barton if he can stay away from murdering people and stuff
  15. Yeah, we all know that as we have been in Europe almost every season since we joined the Premier League, we will have earned huge amounts more than Spurs overall - but the problem is last season. How can they have earned (according to the Cockney-based papers) "10 TIMES" (almost exactly) what we earned? They cannot. Why was it printed?? Why was it not queried - or, at least, 'commented on'?? howay man, 'cause it's spurs don't you know? surely you've heard that they sign every player cheaper than anyone else could have and pay them less - they only join spurs due to the allure of the seven sisters road and surrounding palatial areas therefore it stands to reason they'd get 10 times more income than us for playing one more game doesn't it?
  16. in response to roedebots wider comments about allardyce asking for time he's so fucken dull he can't see what allardyce is doing - for years upon years we've seen unrealistic goals set to our managers by fat fred and allardyce is patently attempting to reverse that trend in my opinion, privately (given the players at the club and the signings he's already made, with the assumption of more to come) allardyce should and probably will be aiming for 4th place next season if he fails then fine, no-one expected it, but if he's not even aiming for that he's an idiot and he's not an idiot glenn
  17. pish, my first thoughts too - fucken smart arse spurs fans "we've even earned more than you in europe" na na nah nah what about the last 10 years pal? wankers
  18. good point it's a risky little game spurs are playing now if you ask me, they started out picking up scraps like lennon for 1m and carrick for 2.5m that type of thing...this got them relative success but now they're starting to pay 10m for 17 year old left backs if 1m aaron lennon fails it ain't gonna break you but if bent/berbatov breaks his legs and bale just turns out not to be able to cut it then it's a bigger problem entirely thing is we went through the same point of development and totally fucked it up by not strengthening when we needed to and then reversing the "policy" of signing younger players....spurs at the moment look like they're doing it with more savvy but there are no guarantees eh? if it falls apart we'll have them in two seasons, as you say
  19. totally agree - if we sign enough competent defenders and build a UNIT we have enough, or will have enough if we add a bit of top class creativity, to do very very well as a team next season
  20. Mascherano after 6 or so good games for Liverpool? Lets hope he's better at playing against Spanish teams than he is Italian then. howay man, that lad is one of the finest defensive midfielders in the game - one of the smartest pieces of business done last season by liverpool in getting him (anyone know the fee?) if not THE finest
  21. i'd rather run before we can jump in that respect - get in a solid group of defenders and build a settled, competent defence that isn't under massive pressure to succeed and only concede 10 goals all season once we get a defence that's well drilled and doesn't fall on it's arse at the crucial moment in games we can then think about blowing our wads on ultra expensive world class defenders there'd be nothing worse for me than to blow 20m on a defender, the pressure on the lad would be intolerable 20m on tevez or whatever he'd cost would be a better bet, at this stage of the rebuilding process
  22. i made the same thread to all intents and purposes a few days back and got slated, everyone just said "get the defence sorted first" anyhow for me attacking mid/striker - tevez, break the bank
  23. If that is who Arsenal intend to go into the season with, then Spurs will finish 4th. I disagree. Arsenal have a far superior manager and coaching set up. People are forgetting that they beat Spurs three times last season with a weakened team every time, Henry didn't play in any of those games. I also don't believe their spending is over and all of their younger players are that bit more experienced than last season. They suffered a lot of injuries last season, I'd be surprised if they get hit that badly again (same goes for us). Arsenal will finish top 4, I'm confident of that. I do see this year as an opportunity for the likes of us and Spurs (and maybe Everton, if they can spend well on a limited budget) to close the gap on them though. might come down to whether berbatov can carry spurs for most of the season again like henry used to do for arse...if he plays the full season like he played the 2nd half of last season they could take arsenal, perhaps however lets not forget they've got a perpetual cripple as the mainstay of their defence plus dawson is a fucken comedian so goals against spurs are never gonna be hard to come by...some of the spurs fans on here are harping on about kaboul like (a) they've already signed him and (b) he's been cloned from franz beckenbauers genes....if a 21 year-old frenchman comes in and shores up that defence then good luck to them i say they play nice football and score goals but lack a certain steel that arsenal have instilled in themselves via wenger.... so for me arsenal every time
