Ah, the old '4 weeks out of the team and we forget that Haidara has been absolute garbage in every appearance this season' syndrome. Dummett was poor today but in the majority of his appearances for us he's been solid defensively while offering next to nothing going forward. Haidara achieves the same level of fuck all going forward with the added skill of being totally shit in defence.

Dummett is better than Haidara but neither is really good enough to be starting for us.

On the Mitrovic incident I said when it happened to book them both and get on with it, ref made the right call there. The rest of the performance was good, quite unlucky not to win against a Stoke side who always seem to come to SJP with no tactic beyond being spoilers. Performances have picked up and as long as they continue, wins will follow.

Personally don't think he's anywhere near good enough, and can only play as a #10 without being a total liability. But perhaps the new coaching staff can get something out of him, who knows.

There's no way McClaren would have told Anita to only pass it short, back and sides for those first six games. The only reason I can think for doing that is to try and ensure in future games that the short pass is the first option, rather than the longer ball being the first option. Let's see how it goes anyway, hopefully he keeps on mixing up his passing more.

Krul - 7 - Has to be questioned for the second goal, was good otherwise. Janmaat - 7 - Reasonably solid, limited opportunities to attack. Mbemba - 8 - Beast. Colo - 7 - TV performance from him as per. Mbabu - 8 - Exceeded even the highest of expectations for him. Sissoko - 6 - Quiet game really. Anita - 7 - His best game this season. Colback - 7 - Likewise as above. Wijnaldum - 7 - His best position might well be out wide. Perez - 8 - Played the second striker role perfectly. Mitrovic - 9 - His hold up play and general work rate is outstanding. Love his attitude. Obertan - 6 - Put in a good shift, unlucky not to receive a couple of through balls.

Performance was great, that's what we need to take from that game.
