Did Pards actually admit/say this? If he did say that it's fecking unbelievable. Makes it sound like he's the victim. It's like some bin dipper on the jeremy kyle show being proven to be a serial womaniser and being accused of sleeping with his Mrs sister and coming out with the statement "even if the lie detector test proves I didn't sleep with her sister she'd probably still kick me out". I think all he's saying is that his future is in Mike Ashley's hands. If we get relegated its up to Ashley whether AP stays or goes, and if we stay up Ashley may still decide he agrees with the majority on here and gets rid. Haven't seen or heard the full transcript but at first glance it doesn't smack of playing a victim card tbh.

Stellar paragraphing by you Parky and good of you to take the time out to do it - but that post by tom contained nothing new. It was just a lengthy summary of the anti Pardew element of the last 166 pages of this thread. Venkman's post earlier today (consisting of one very short sentence) was about as good as it gets on this line of argument.
  3. Warnock has to have a look at this opportunity as well.....

I know there's still a long way to go in the two games left and we aren't safe - but after what happened in our game against Wigan in March and all the crap they spouted afterwards, they can f*ck off and end up like Wolves and Blackburn for all I care.

We are. You got a problem with that?

But probably for purely financial reasons they do give a f*ck. Could be worse. And yes as others have said - this season ffs

To be honest you would expect there to be a few ructions when you play two home games and cumulatively get stuffed 0-9. I would be pretty disappointed if there wasn't some "tension" amongst the squad Also would fully expect the players to have something to say to the manager regarding tactics, they were on the pitch and were closer to that shytefest than anyone else at the club. It would reveal a far greater problem if everyone just said "see you Monday" (or in most cases "au revoir, a Lundi") and legged it home after being done 0-6 at home by the rats.

Cliche bingo time. 'Lean on experience' 'Dig in and grind out' 'We're in a battle/scrap/dogfight' 'We need energy' 'We want to put this right' 'Players and staff are hurting' 'Gonna need the fans on Sat' 'Just need to get over the line' 'Play on the front foot to win' 'Carroll is a fret' 'Nolan will be a fret from set plays' 'Been working hard in training'
  9. Played the second half with the line up that most people wanted. We were still completely outplayed.

Fwiw I know West Ham fans who still rate Pardew, liked the way he set their teams up and would happily have him back. Whether thats got a whiff of voting against Fat Sam I don't know, but they claim not.
  11. Doubt it. Nothing different to what happens under any new manager; players try harder for a number of matches. We'll see next season if he's any good, for now it's simply job done. I think you are probably right given the momentum they now have and the games they have left to play - but they still only have 37 points right now.

At least Sunderland's board had the common sense to sack MON, I don't think ours will. Ashley is generally very loyal to the people who work for him if they have delivered in the past. But he's known for being ruthless if he loses faith in them. I don't know Ashley personally so have no idea what his view of Pardew is right now but I would think that AP would be unwise to think he just has to keep us up to stay here. I think Ashley would be looking at the final matches this season for some signs that AP can deliver results when any Europa side effects cannot be regarded as an issue.
  13. Crikey. The book value of that loan was around £50-60m at the time of the takeover, the break fees on the loan must have been horrific. That's why you do due diligence, boys! Also, last time I checked a 'cash advance' is a loan. I don't mind the board running the club as they see fit, but their obfuscation around financial issues drives me up the wall. What they are say here is "Mike doesn't want his loan back, apart from the bit he did. Which we've paid him". FFS (Shepherd) hid quite a bit of the debt (from the losses from 2005 - 2007) via Barclays with a huge overdraft and new loans which Ashley didn't know. Also Shepherd with his cosy relationship with Barclays putting in takeover clauses into them didn't help. I don't think any debt or loans were hidden but the loan agreements did contain clauses that resulted in them being repayable in full if there was a change of ownership. I believe this came as a bit of a shock to Ashley, as did the flawed business model he inherited.

What they are say here is "Mike doesn't want his loan back, apart from the bit he did. Which we've paid him". I think this particular "advance" was identified and disclosed in last year's accounts as being specifically for short term purposes and to be repaid shortly after it was received. I can see what you mean but I suppose the point is that the major chunk of Ashley's loan hasn't been reduced and is now arguably pretty much an intrinsic part of the capital structure of the club.
  15. Its an extremely valid observation. The stadium is absolutely magnificent and is the legacy of the previous owners. There is no doubt that they did get a lot right, and I agree with HTT that Sir John Hall deserves huge credit as the "visionary" who kick started the huge improvement in the club's fortunes. However by 2007 the club was in a mess, Sir John Hall had for several years not been involved in the day to day running which was pretty much in the hands of Freddie Shepherd. Whether Sir John's son, Douglas, played much of a role is not clear but he and Shepherd extracted considerable sums of money by way of salaries and dividends, which were (shall we say) hard to justify given the club's apparent deteriorating performance. These financial rewards were also being paid to people who had never put much, if any, money into the club. I have, in the past, spouted at length on here (in response to Shepherdistas who seem to have now disappeared for some reason) demonstrating the scale of the financial mess the previous regime left behind, and I really don't want to re-visit it I would hesitate to draw a parallel with Leeds but, around the summer of 2007, something fairly fundamental had to happen to return the club to viability. So yes the previous lot did plenty of good things but ultimately left a financial shambles behind them. Fortunately for them they found an impulsive billionaire with some spare readies who wasn't too fussed about having a proper look at what he was buying. After some fairly horrendous and bewildering moments it looks as though it might have been fortunate for us as well.
  16. Fortunately I no longer work for an accounting firm. These days I work in investment, so I tend to concentrate on the "big picture" rather than the detail I see, so in investment misinterpreting a billion for a million is no biggy.. Just pulling your leg mate.. You're welcome. Like many an accountant I've endured years of having the piss taken so my leg is used to a good pulling

  18. WTF Yup. Twas Freddie and Co's final year in the trough. http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQPZAAXIq0YkBjLdKhQ-xuk-8Ce9F8tVHTC1kh4ATKb-zfm6JWD Yes - the club was bought in the summer of 2007 and that remuneration went to the Shepherds and the Halls. An amount of more than one billion and sixty one million Great British Pounds doesn't sound suspiciously high to you? Good spot. I read it as about a £million not a f*cking £billion

  21. I'd be surprised if we pay any tax for the foreseeable future. We have many years of significant tax losses banked up and they can be used to offset any profits that we make.
  22. Yup, although I'm waiting for that c*nt Rod Liddle to come out with a "deluded Toon fans" angle on it.

I merely used the stats point to counter the argument that we were negative. I'm not saying we were great or that we will win the PL.
