It wasn't so long ago people were praising Shola the supersub, it's not his fault that due to lack of options we've had to rely on him to lead the line. He's always been a fourth choice striker, a different option to bring on towards the end of a game, he still has his uses. He's shot with the injuries he's played through and will never be any use playing a 90 minute match. Can't fault the guy for always being there when needed, yeah he's frustrating, he'll never be a world beater, never lived up to his early potential, never be a legend, but he will always be fondly remembered and will always be the mackem destroyer!!

There's no reason why he should drop back when Ben Arfa come back in the side, with a free roam I can see all three of the am's dropping deep to get the ball and pushing forward to create space. Ben Arfa does it too, with enough fluidity it would work, putting the shackles on Sissoko in favour of other players is a bad idea IMHO.

Can't say I'm dissatisfied with this, just concretes the fact we didn't just dodge a bullet, we dodged a mortar shell with this one, certainly wouldn't swap him for what we got in his place and think Cisse will come good with the added quality he has around him now. Spuds, all but strikerless, didn't perform particularly well, cut out the supply to Bale and I really fancy our chances in this one. So long as we go into it with the same mentality as the Chelski game and react well to any lapse in quality the same, another second half Villa performance and they'll punish us.
