Newcastle United always go to Anfield defeated. Like last year , we pick an XI and formation that almost excuses defeat before it's happened, and recognises that it is unlikely we get a result so we may as well avoid injuries and try something different for the sake of it.

A cup competition, by definition, is designed to be high stakes. If you lose, you lose. Unlike the league, there are no opportunities to rebound.
