Why is Tonali taking a corner when every Bruno effort has nearly led to a goal?

Murphy pass completion stats can't be looking good

We are more likely to concede from an attacking free kick than score.

Such an utterly pointless game for all concerned tonight. -

Such a man city foul to concede. -
Fair point, there was a mitigation last year

Newcastle United always go to Anfield defeated. Like last year , we pick an XI and formation that almost excuses defeat before it's happened, and recognises that it is unlikely we get a result so we may as well avoid injuries and try something different for the sake of it.

Nothing good happens to us at Anfield Fully expecting a defeat, an unjustified red card, a Salah dive to win a penalty, and possibly a few injuries to round it off. -

Have we got 11 players on the pitch? Miley having to mark 3 players at any given time -

Embarrassing. They were literally queuing up with the overload with half our team and midfield nowhere to be seen. -
I'd give Wissa the benefit of the doubt on the PSV finish as whilst it looked ugly, the replay showed that he hit the ball into the ground and back across goal. I think it's the fact that his 3 goals for Newcastle so far have all been pretty ugly that is maybe swaying opinion on his finishing.

His ball retention and ability to receive the ball and turn into space has been excellent in recent weeks. He also seemed to realise the importance of stepping up and taking responsibility when his pal Bruno went off.

Long ball has to the way to play this lot. Get up the field and let them make mistakes. -
Shocked city didn't manage that counter attack through conceding a foul whilst avoiding a yellow card likely they always do against us

Remember Fergie calling Jonas out after the game he was that good.

Newcastle United 0-2 Manchester City [LCSF 1st Leg] (13/01/25)

A league season is an endurance event and the January transfer window (broadly in the middle of the season) provides all teams with an opportunity to refresh their squad, with the likelihood that any reinforcements or sales broadly equally impact all other teams in a similar way. A cup competition, by definition, is designed to be high stakes. If you lose, you lose. Unlike the league, there are no opportunities to rebound. Once a team (and the players of that team) exits the competition, there should no longer be an opportunity to compete within that same competition. -

I had no idea about this and I am sure it has been done to death in this forum already but a player playing for two teams in the same domestic cup competition within the same season is utter nonsense. -

Surprisingly give no fucks about this result other than an annoyance that I was convinced that Semenyo was cup tied. -
My memory is a bit hazy but I don't remember him actually serving up shit performances or making lots of mistakes. He was pretty solid if not unspectacular, then got injured at old Trafford and seemed to disappear with eczema.

Man City draws need to start being questioned. Get a bye to the final most years.
