  1. As novel as a spurs relegation would be, they would almost certainly canter back to promotion. Actually feel sorry for their fanbase as the vibes around the club are pure Mike Ashley, and all the Spurs fans I work with are sound. The Spurs fans I speak to have already accepted that they are down, despite the implied probability suggesting otherwise.
  2. The mental gymnastics on display are truly incredible. Every possible outcome or scenario that has happened (NUFC win trophy, qualify for CL) or might happen (NUFC either finish above or below Sunderland this year) is somehow trumpeted as major moral victory on behalf of Sunderland AFC. You'd think there might be an appetite amongst Sunderland fans for a message board which is not a throwback to a Yahoo chat room from the mid 90s.
  3. More contact on Ramsey than for their free kick leading to the goal
  4. We have had about 3-4 moments that if we kept our cool and played a simple pass we would have had a one on one opportunity within the 18 yard box.
  5. It's a game of opinions and I expected others to disagree with my high opinion of Gordon's technical abilities given his form and application in league over the last year. For the reasons given I view Gordon as a highly technical player as well as offering pace to burn. We know Howe also feels this way from numerous quotes/interviews. And it would not suprise me if the likes of Arteta/Slot agree with him. I say all this whilst acknowledging that much of his play has infuriated me since the Brighton FA cup tie last year.
  6. - Elite dribbling skills and ability to beat full backs in 1v1 - Genuine two footed winger, can go either side and cross with both feet - Strong close control - Ability to find space in tight or crowded areas - Good first touch and ability to hold up or retain possession - Best penalty taker at the club and good striker of a football - High quality pressing, cuts off passing lanes whilst leading the press and wins high turnovers I am not denying Gordon's league form and work rate has been questionable over the last year but to deny his technical abilities is ridiculous.
  7. Gordon is massively underrated on here. One of the few wingers in the league with both high technical attributes and pace to burn.
  8. In every previous season under Howe, Newcastle had played with a striker capable of playing on the shoulder and supporting the high press. Anyone who understands how Eddie Howe team's play would know that not having a striker with that profile would have a significant, likely negative (at least in the short term), impact on the team.
  9. It was a generalisation but I think the premier league has generally got the application of the hand ball right - I.e. penalise where a deliberate or unnatural action leads to an advantage to the defending team. When VAR came into the premier league, we had those batshit periods during COVID where anything was a handball (we won one against Spurs which was ridiculous). In fairness, I think the Premier League has got back to a place where their interpretation of handball rule is reasonable. I dislike the European interpretation and did not like the penalty decision we got last night on the basis that you should only penalise what you can reasonably control.
  10. The handball rule worked perfectly in the pre-VAR era. Refs basically went on vibes and everyone accepted it.
  11. Dunston UTS would give these a game. How the fuck did they draw with Chelsea ?
  12. Always difficult to gauge a performance with the extra man but I thought it was an even game in first half against a decent villa side away from home. Our control of the ball looked far better in a 4-2-3-1. Not quite understanding the villa take that they controlled the game before the red card. I will accept however that Rogers looked superb on the ball and is a fantastic player.
  13. Can deal with Man City at home as I always fancy our chances to take out a big team at home under Howe. But the real shitter is the rest of the draw. Nobody decent will exit the competition, they can all rest their players, and even if we do get through, we will be rewarded with Arsenal or Liverpool away.
  14. Man City last 8 draws: Reading, Aldershot, Bracknell, Didcot, Yateley, Winnersh, Taplow. Burghfield.
  15. Schar foden penalty could easily have been given and we went on to win
  16. Why did he get no France caps whilst racking up insane numbers for Newcastle in the premier league? I seem to remember France deploying Bruno Cheyrou one time on the left side of midfield whilst he was stinking out the premier league, whilst Robert didn't get a look in.
  17. He played out wide against Marseille
  18. I have equally fond memories as this was a rare game I could watch on Terrestrial TV as my old man was either too tight to get Sky TV or just preferred not having it as it gave him a ready made excuse to go to the pub every weekend. He did take me to watch all the Monday night games at the Social Club mind, and bought me a panda pop.
  19. Disagree, I thought this looked like a classic 'just onside' in a pre-VAR era because Willock's feet (where the eye are drawn) are behind the defender and the timing of the run looks and feels spot on.
  20. At least we can relax now as we are great at holding on to leads
  21. You joke but I was convinced they were going to find a reason
  22. Is this the same technology that rules Witz onside ? And the tolerance was the cited reason

    Lewis Hall

Lewis Hall is the absolute least of our worries. Exceptional footballer, unreal close control, great dribbler with real attacking threat, and a solid defender who – like nearly every fullback in the league – gets done occasionally. That's it.
  24. At this stage, any body we have with an ounce of athleticism would likely be less damaging to the team than playing Trippier. I am not blaming Tripps here, it is unfair on him that he is expected to play at this level when he is clearly not up to it and every opposition game plan knows it.
  25. Lol. I don't think Brentford were even trying to win the game and we still fuck it up
