Newcastle United Managers - The Premier League Years

Pardew above Rafa? I accept we finished 5th under him one season, but in view of his whole tenure I'm surprised you remain so positive. We played good football for only really one season, and only in spells. The beginning of 13/14 we got some good results, but I can't remember it being exactly good to watch. He oversaw some of the bleakest days in the club's modern history. Roeder was OK I think. Did really well salvaging what he inherited from Souness in 2006 and finishing 7th was miraculous - played some good football near the end too. Didn't receive the same kind of financial backing Souness was afforded once made permanent manager (Duff always seemed to me a Shepherd signing, and one who only curtailed N'Zogbia's development) and had to rely on loans and freebies, Rossi, Sibierski, Olivier Bernard's return lol. Considering our back four in 06/07 was some combination of Stephen Carr, Peter Ramage, Paul Huntington, David Edgar, Craig Moore and Celestine Babayaro I'd say he did well to even keep us up that year, especially with the injuries. Just enjoyed thenplayers we had. The midfield and attack were combative and deadly. The subs annoyed me, the starting 11s were just braindead but it was the best football we played in 10 years. A lot of Rafa was just tense and hanging on. I didn’t think we could beat anyone. Rafa, the genius he is, got the points but the matches were painful. I am being hard on Roeder. 06/07 was a crappy squad. Totally right about Duff. Stunted. N’Zogbia. It was so annoying seeing a talented player on the bench when he had won games for us at 18. The Alkmaar loss annoys me. We should have gone theough. Threw away a two goal lead. -

1. Kevin Keegan 90s - manager when I first started supporting Newcastle. 2nd place 5-0 Man U 2. Bobby Robson - wish I got to watch football more during this. Caught the tail end of his tenure. When I moved to America, I was dirt poor and didn’t have cable or internet. Followed Newcastle through Fifa 2002. Wish I got to see the Feyenoord game you guys are always talking about. 3. Alan Pardew - controversial but I enjoyed the football under him(not through his tactics or him personally), it was the players of course). But I felt like we could win any game we went into because of the players we had. We had some really good games and I remember them fondly. 4. Rafa- Just the fact that he took the job. What a gent. Got us back up, two excellent finished with dross signings. Annoyed he left for China but he’s got standards. Can’t hate him for that. 5. Glenn Roeder - never had faith in the guy. Felt like that 7th place finish was the character of the team at the time. Kind of like how Chelsea won the Champions League with Di Mateo. 6. Chris Hughton - Thanks for getting us back up but never felt like he knew what he was doing. Do kind of like Bruce. I’m pleasantly surprised that we’re not in a relegation battle. Do hope the takeover goes through and we upgrade of course. Don’t count the other ones. -
Not a fan of his. Seems content to play for us no matter what division we’re in. Slow and ponderous on the ball. 28 but you’d swear he was 34-35. We should look for an upgrade on him.

Van Der Sar when he went to Fulham was really strange as he had accomplished so much leading up to that and was still young by keeper standards.
-
If we use him how Man Utd used Wes Brown and John O’Shea, I’ll be very happy. Not the type of player I’d like to lose while while he’s able to perform at his maximum level.
-
I hated Spurs for years because we'd lose our best players to them despite finishing above them. Ruel Fox, Ginola, Ferdinand, Jenas, Modric and Harry Redknapp choosing them over us.
-
Robert vs Fulham Ben Arfa vs Bolton Solano vs Everton
-
Got to level 23 on that quiz. Didn't have cable from 2000-2003.

m So clear

Pavard was brilliant tonight. They all were honestly. Chelsea should be embarrassed by that.
-
He looked ok and then stood out as a weak link. Not like he was given that much time. 12 games overall. Does feel like he played more than that.
-
Leipzig look the home team.
-
Tottenham teams looks interesting. Doesn't look bad mind.
-
Think if Ayoze was still here, he’d be having an easier time. Don’t think ASM is a good partner for him.
-
Celta take an early lead vs Real Madrid. Bale and Hazard starting along side Benzema.
-
The Rose one? Omg.
-
Good start from us. Look up for it.
-
That’s a great point about Ward Prowse. Didn’t think about it like that.
-
Aw Loved Ba. He loved his syrup. Also miss Cisse. He was such a ruthless finisher. You just felt you had a chance with him in the side. Loved when Ba went on the wing to accommodate Papiss. He was such a classy guy.

I think Leeds are expected to play this dynamic style of football and they can’t sustain that for a full season. I agree the media plays into it way too much. They want him to succeed so much that it’s got him doing strange things? Did you see him running full pitch to celebrate a players goal in training. That’s not normal for him. He’s cracking. I really really hope they don’t bottle it this time. It would be a great shame. I could give a fuck about Leeds but it’s undeniable the amount of effort he puts in and the football really is exquisite. Also the fair play last year. See he really is a football perfectionist. I’m not sure how many other managers would do that. Wouldn’t you just take the goal and say we win some, we lose some? I think I’d just take the goal. I bet Arsene would have turned his back right there and say he didn’f see it and tell his players to continue.

When has Bielsa ever talked about how good he is When he revealed everything in that spygate scandal. He was basically revealing why he was this world renowned manager and it brought a whole lot of unwanted pressure on him and the team. Feel like Leeds were under under pressure to play this intense style of football and it began affecting their results. Sometimes you gotta play ugly, man. He did that to show that the spying didn't make much of a difference. You also just made up that he did it after the Arsenal game too Did you see the production BBC did for the game? It was all about Bielsa ball. How this Lower division team full of unknown players with lesser ability could outclass a Premier League giant based on football philosophy alone. I just think it was too much pressure for the team to handle. And IIRC their form has dipped since that game. Maybe he’s better flying under the radar.

That’s the thing I was hoping for - more of an impact. I just haven’t seen that. It’s just the same old average.

Oh my bad. Oh well I’ll bring something to the table. That idiot Bielsa. The moment he starts opening his mouth talking about how good he is, Leeds begin to bottle it. All this happened after that Arsenal game. They were going along smoothly then the Arsenal game happened and they capitulated. Spygate? Right after that, all the attention, he starting getting overconfident and bam they bottled it. He’s a right cocky bastard.
