If we’re resting Tonali for either the CL or the PL I’d rather we rest him for PL matches and let him rip in Europe where he’s arguably more comfortable.

I’m definitely warming to the idea of a DM with Bruno and Tonali either side and both in more advanced roles. It could be a real game changer to have that option. It could also make it so we might be able to deploy Isak in a 10 behind Wilson.

You’re the only one saying that though. We’re just saying the team needs to built around him going forward - plenty of other CL teams would be willing to, and love to, do that - very far from “things have to change or he’s off”. He’ll be that good.

Agreed. And I don’t see the Wilson to Barca links anywhere? That’s the most telling to me. Isak needs to be starting and the system built to suit him (and Tonali / Bruno) as much as possible.

I really hope we stay in the game and don’t just defend this.

Having players like Gordon and Barnes in the wide areas is completely useless when they’re getting the ball near the halfway line. They’re wide forwards, not wingers. When we don’t press and recycle possession further up the pitch - like we successfully did last season - they become less effective and get asked to do things they’re not as successful at. It also isolates the fuck out of Wilson/Isak. Without our strong press, no other team is nervous about playing us anymore. With these new tactics, we’re no longer a team to be feared.
