Would have taken McTominay in the summer (anyone saying he’s worse than Longstaff is insane btw) when I was expecting us to be hovering around 7th-9th by the end of the season. However, if we’re serious about finishing in the top 4, he’s not the level of player we should be looking at.

The dark, petty side of me - and tbf I’m basically a waxing crescent- wants to demote him to the reserves for being a diva. I imagine he’s better than Karius though, so if he’s happy to shut up and take in the odd cup game then I’ll begrudgingly welcome him back.

Agree with this. Coaches can definitely improve players through getting them fitter and developing their tactical awareness and positioning however I doubt you instill an elite work-rate/ physicality into a player that doesn’t already have these traits. At least not enough to make a significant difference at the top-level imo.
