I know, it’s odd. But we didn’t sell them to unlock funds for this window. Like if this week we sign Guehi, Madeuke, a CM, and Trafford there will be a party in here. But it would look much different if we then sell Isak in June to pay for it.
-
Minteh and Anderson should be part of grading our summer 2023 business.
-
I'm hoping, in the absence of a new RW, that he makes the whole right side more competent.
-
Surprised this is the first post mentioning the Bournemouth connection.
-
I have a feeling the players are far more upbeat about our team than visitors of the transfer thread.
-
That number includes all staff, though common estimates put 1st team players / coaches at roughly 80% of that. But £187m is before Tonali / Barnes / Tino, plus Bruno and Joelinton increases. We’re probably around £200m now.
-
I’ve been disappointed by this since he went to Brighton. Isak and then Gordon pushed us to the limit so we never really had a chance, but I wish we had been able to get Pedro also. If we had had a chance to spend the Barnes money on him instead I think we’d have a lot better balance / fluidity / options up front.
-
Isn’t Liverpool after him? Someone who can also play RB would be perfect.
-
It’s a mackems wet dream for this to not end well and this is basically the first stretch of negativity since the takeover.
-
You don’t alter your transfer strategy because of a red card unless you don’t know what you’re doing.
-
At this point I’m just opening this thread to find out if @SUPERTOON has seen Donnie Darko yet.
-
I think he’d be concerned about Barnes exposing Longstaff / Tino, but Barnes on the left comes with the benefit of the rock that is Joelinton behind him. Gordon may be slightly less effective on the right, but the front three doesn’t need to be static and it seems like any drop off from Gordon on the right is more than made up for by Barnes over Murphy / Miggy. Howe may also be less inclined to do this though with a new / makeshift back four.
-
I thought our Swedish friends taught us it was Ee-zak (or ee-sak) from the beginning and it was just the Bruno song that got it all wrong.
-
Go watch that, ideally in an altered state, and you won't give a shit about our transfer business for a little while.
-
Because our wage bill is very high so it would help unlock new spend (or help make us compliant come June without having to panic sell). Fraser, Lewis, Dubs/Vlachodimos a must. Miggy (+ a fee) a big help, and Targett in a dream.
-
Yes, return to play and return to perform (i.e. back to where they were) are typically two different timelines. Not always the case and greatly depends on the specifics of the injury and the individual, but it's why I'm assuming we won't have a fully ready Botman (or Lascelles) for a huge portion of the season.
-
This place may be worse than the lowest point from last season if we don't sign a RW (likely) and drop points against Bournemouth/Spurs and/or go out of the cup.
-
Yeah, I don’t think we can lose so many defenders at once. But I’d be doing it on our terms.
-
Without looking it up that must be over £25m in wages, not counting Schar who should be extended. It’s an incredible reset opportunity. I’d be in no rush to extend anyone else unless we know we can get a fee for them.
-
Yup, Joelinton and Pope. A really terrible combo to be missing.
-
Ha, same. Signing a RCB who could, in an emergency, fill in at RB if needed is probably the easiest path to moving Trippier and not completely regretting it three months from now. Just on wages alone we'd save over £5m this season by not having Trippier, so if he's not going to start every week it's the most sensible thing to do.
-
I'd be irrationally excited by an outgoing.
-
So is most of our squad unfortunately.
-
Ladies and gentlemen, our new right winger.

Check out my podcast dropping tonight where, after having collated all of the day's news, I make up some plausible information and present it in a vague way.
