No-one is disputing his ability, though. The reasoning behind not wanting him back is due to the negative effects it could potentially have on the team spirit, seeing as he was apparently one of those players who wanted out the summer we got relegated. Seeing as the 'senior pros' told those particular players not to come back to the club (I'm assuming this means Barton, Nolan, Smith, Harper etc), and also considering those players have all been integral either on the pitch or in the dressing room, it would be a pretty risky idea. There isn't sufficient need to chance it and bring him back, imo. We can look elsewhere and hopefully unearth another gem.

I don't think Pardew will look to sell him. I doubt we'd be able to get more than a few million for him and I don't think we'd really benefit from that money enough to justify getting rid. The point I'm trying to make is that he's not 'lethal' at all, not even against the shitter defences. Two games against Wigan showcases him missing a hatful of chances, and he was absolutely wank in the Accrington game, I don't think he had a kick other than his goal.

Only the Accrington goal was worth anything tangible. The rest of them you could disregard and we'd still have the same points tally.

In terms of ranking players out of 100 ala FIFA, I'd rate Best at about 71-72 and Lovenkrands at 64-65. To think that on the release of FIFA11, Carroll is 74 and Lovenkrands is 75.
