If England end up losing to Colombia, this whole 1st/2nd debate was a waste of time because the team clearly wasn't close to good enough.

There's been too few penalties . One weakly given through VAR, but that's countered by VAR not being used on the three-four stonewall penalties, now that's unforgivable. There's been 20 penalties, which is already a tournament record and we're still in the group phase. I know what you mean, though. VAR is showing that, if you look hard enough, each match should (technically) have 4 or 5 penalties - they just often go unnoticed or rules aren't followed as stringently. Not sure I like that discovery, though.

World Cup? VARld Cup, more like. Far too many penalties, far too many long delays. Let's introduce helmets and go full-on NFL.

Why on earth did we put such a pathetically low release fee in there? Embarrassing. Further weakening of the squad in an area where we already needed an extra body. Something's not quite right, mind. The way he's disappeared since returning from injury.

Looking online, it seems like the majority are against the whole 'finishing second' thing but at least Group G goes on last. Going into the Belgium game we'll already know Germany's group and the order of Japan, Senegal and Colombia. Yes the big teams will eventually be played, but why not start later on? Italia '90 wasn't cheapened by the very generous route England had to the semis. Let's do that.

Already better than Drinkwater and Bakayoko, maybe Fabregas too. They'd be mad to sell him. Think it's more likely they'll just make another expensive signing. Hopefully Sarri comes in with his own ideas and didn't watch much Crystal Palace last season.
