  1. When we played Liverpool in the 1974 FA Cup final we were actually the more successful team with 11 major honours to their 10. Since then Liverpool have won 5 European Cups/Champions League, 2 UEFA Cups, 10 league titles, 6 FA Cups and 8 League Cups =31 major honours. We've won nowt, not even by accident.
  2. ''Colback played well but is still an utter c*** who I'll never give my 100% backing to''. Why? I thought we looked decent and ''contained'' Citeh for most of the match. We lack a bit of a cutting edge but anyone on here could have predicted that before the match.

  4. Not seen him? This Thought he was our best player today. Maybe, he was up there. We have had pedestrian midfields before with static players keen to pass sideways. This player is happy to take the ball and run with it, putting pressure on the opposition and creating space, that's what we've been missing and something you don't see that often, see the England team for confirmation. Isn't that what football is about? No?
  5. Colback was a million miles better than him today and arguably just as positive, despite his deeper role. When did Colback take the ball and run 40 yards at the opposite defence? You are not comparing like with like. Sissoko has power, pace and strength, he is missing poise but why compare him with Colback? Might as well compare him with Krul.
  6. A fantasy player in the mould of Ginola, Asprilla, HBA etc. What's the point though? He will sold once th big boys come sniffing about.
  7. A total mediocrity. When I watch Keegan's 'I'd love it' clip on YouKnowWhere it makes me want to cry. That was a manager who players would run through brick walls for, who would never give up and would make the opposition worry about us. Pardew is the antithesis of all of that. Depressing
  8. Yep. The old guard of Gerrard etc. weren't good enough in their prime but they're doing a nurturing job and like you say 2016 onwards should be even better. If this squad is being thrown together for 2016/2018 in mind then Gerrard shouldn't be in the squad. You would run the risk of ruining the young uns without an experienced nucleus guiding them. It's why Lampard is there. And it's why Ashley Cole should've been there. Exactly any arsing about by the young lads and Cole would have shot them.
  9. We've shown enough to win the next two games. Italy were no great shakes, they exploited the weakness on England's left until they went into catenaccio mode. Meh.
  10. The players contribute by diving and cheating in every match making it harder for the refs.
  11. Yes, mostly caused by poor decision making. We really are toothless in most games.
  12. Again only "decent" it's hardly a ringing endorsement is it. I'm sorry but a home tie against Citeh's reserves is a game we should be looking to win. Pardew has a readymade excuse for the impending humping to Chelsea now too. We've played well for long spells. We just can't keep a clean sheet and we've got no cutting edge in the final third.
  13. Demba Ba loved that dinked ball over the top Are you watching the match with him?
  14. Greg Dyke is talking a load of rubbish. Our lack of success has been a feature since England became seriously involved in competitive international football in the 1950s. It predates the Premiership by a long way, and is primarily down to the lack of technical ability in English players. At the very top level, we get found out. If anything the gap in technique between ourselves and the rest has narrowed since the Premiership was formed, even though it's still there. And the current England team are better than the vast majority of England teams I've had to watch over the last 40 years. The early Sir Bobby teams, say 82-84 when the old guard of Ron Greenwood had retired and Sir Bobby was floundering somewhat, which incidentally he did quite a lot of as England manager, we had some awful performances and one in particular against Russia in 84 when he selected Steve Hunt and John Gregory in midfield which I can never forget. But even those days fade into insignificance to when Graham Taylor was selecting Greg Dyke is talking a load of rubbish. That's the worst England times I can remember. Bad times, for anyone not old enough to remember search for 'THAT Geoff Thomas Miss' on a popular web-site.
  15. Can't remember the last time I saw Man United players making so many individual errors. Passes going awry, clumsy first touches etc. It's a bit like watching us. I would be enjoying this if they weren't playing Liverpool.
  16. Jarvis is quick though I'm sure it was Cole who 'skinned' him near the end of the game.
  17. I'd back Geremi to beat him over 100m, could probably give him a head start anarl.
  18. Lot of modern games on here, no doubt reflecting the ages of forum members. Most recent World Cups have been pretty crap which is a shame but I still get genuinely excited before these tournaments. Best game bar none: France V West Germany 1982 Semi Final. That game had everything.
  19. Novocastrian

    Alan Pardew

Mick Quinn would have scored 8 tonight.
  20. Me too, only Krul and HBA leaving would upset me.
