They're essentially as close as you can come to without being serious contenders. There are only 2 teams who can win it this year, but Spurs are staking a very credible claim to the 3rd position. They're both firmly ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal as it stands (could easily see both Spurs and Arsenal in the top 4 this year).

I'm perfectly willing to give him a chance, and hope he can prove doubters wrong. More regular football can only help him to improve. But that doesn't hide the fact I haven't been impressed with him in his career to date. Thing is, the one place where we're not too short is centre midfield. Fellaini, Osman, Rodwell, Nevillle, Heitinga (those last 2 aren't preferable in midfield but that's where they've played a lot) are all there already. It also suggests Barkley isn't going to be given a real chance this season; shame.
