Apologies for the dramatic change of pace but this situation is a reasonable argument for the transfer window. You could imagine a Prem club sacking their manager now, poaching a manager from a Champ club and him "nicking" a couple of players from that club for the run-in. OK, as you were with Di Canio, McLaren et al. FWIW I'm mainly gutted that my wife didn't get to see MON at Villa Park. I think they were in enough of a mess that something did have to be done.
  2. Such confidence. Evaporated in just 7 weeks... It's Flip, man. His cup perpetually runneth over.

    Football pet hates

Under-rated/over-rated. "Is Simon Mignolet the most under-rated goalkeeper in the Premiership?" (BBC Text). Just say he's good FFS, everyone knows he's good. What he means is surely that Mignolet is a good player playing for a dodgy team. Or that the writer is just ignorant.

    And they'd lose Rose, obviously.
  5. Really like those, especially the white kit. Would be nice if it was these but, I don't know many of us fans that would look good in something that tight..... A lot of fans I've seen at the match wouldn't look good in a tuxedo with a matching paper-bag on their head, so I don't think they'd be able to work away towards those aims. The strip they have now is a tight fitting, but it just encourages me to have less takeaway's. When we had the Kappa strips at Spurs, that was what everyone moaned about. I thought they were our best strips since the late 70s.
  6. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21958058 Well if they thought the FA (and the rest of us) were picking on him because he's a foreigner, who's fault is this one?
  7. Makes you wonder whether we're so active in January not only because of reduced prices/contract issues but also a means of planning for profit for the rest of the financial year to come. You get the players you want (eventually) and turn a profit. I'm no finance man like so that may be guff. Those new players will be offset by the TV money increase I'd have thought, whether there is any more left in the tank is probably the main question you'd want to know the answer too. I think it's pretty obvious why you were so active this January .
  8. I broadly agree, but Sterling has been really poor for a while. Maybe too young, and just needs a break.
  9. That first team Deuce posted is probably there or thereabouts. CB is an issue, and I'd probably have Oxlade-Chamberlain instead of Walcott because (a) I really like him (b) he's got a bit more power and presence if you need to defend. Ashley Young has blown hot and cold too. We have a fair few players who are about the same level who could comfortably slot in. Walcott, Caulker, Cleverly, Walker - you wouldn't be too unhappy at giving them a game too. The problem is that you need at least four or five classy players to convince at this level, plus you need a coherent unit around them. We rarely have the same team together, and don't seem to have a consistent way of playing either. We really should have the players to keep the ball, yet they are so often injured (Wilshere, Cleverly) or fighting a losing battle because the team hasn't knitted together. Unfortunately I only got to watch the San Marino game this week, and you can't take much away from that. I'd be very interested to see how much our team differs game-to-game compared with other international sides. Not pre-empting that at all, but if we actually play the same players regularly (compared to, say, the Netherlands) then there is no excuse for Hodgson. If we make more changes than most, then that might be a major issue.
  10. Some useful players there. Not bad for a population of 700k. (Boooooo, minnows, kick em out) For a fleeting second I thought they were playing Viktor Boskovic.
  11. Some useful players there.
  12. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2294521/Nick-Harris-West-Ham-mortgage-60m-TV-money-bid-manage-debts.html Missed this article. Not a surprise, but interesting to hear that only six clubs are supposed to have mortgaged next year's TV revenue. Thought it might have been more.
  13. Wasn't it Graham Poll who told that story about the World Cup, where in the ref's get together beforehand they were briefed that Crouch fouled a lot? Yeah, here it is: http://www.worldcupblog.org/world-cup-2006/graham-poll-peter-crouch-targeted-by-world-cup-referees.html There were some fucking terrible decisions given against him, too.
  14. Seems to be a plausible approximation. Cheers for the link.
  15. No, it's red with white sleeves. Simple and clean. As all kits should be. I believe leffe may not be all that neutral here. Pretty sure it could be the worlds most beautiful garment and he'd still dislike it if it had an Arsenal badge on. Other than the fact there's a logical inconsistency within that sentence, yes.
  16. Kill it before it breeds.
  17. No, it's red with white sleeves.
  18. I really hope so. Would hate for this to be the making of West Ham.
  19. Is that something peculiar to graduates of the Ajax academy?
  20. I agree tbh I stopped listening a while back. What have they been saying?
  21. Can't really argue with the goals tonight. You have to qualify them all with "it's San Marino", but they've been pretty sweet.
  22. Another nice goal, tbh. I know they're shite beyond shite, but still.
