He hasn't really done much more than somebody like Danny Graham has done only doing it at an earlier age. Graham scored 24 for Watford in the Champ, then in his first top flight season had 10 by about the half way mark only to tail off a bit second half of the season. Carroll scored 17 in the Champ, then had 11 top flight goals when Liverpool paid £35 million for him. What's the difference? Carroll had some very impressive individual displays and scored some goals against the better sides in his favour, but generally the stats and upwards curve align fairly similarly. Similar story for Andy Johnson in 04/05 and Michael Ricketts in 01/02.

Not with Graham, they didn't. They had Dyer/Sinclair/Routledge either side of him. Graham isn't the quickest but he's got movement. Anyway I don't think Liverpool have that little pace upfront. Bellamy, Suarez and Borini can all shift.

I watched Pescara a handful of times last season because of Zeman being there. His teams are always fun. Verratti looks very talented, however it is worth noting that Serie B is not the highest of level and he had players like Insigne and Immobile infront of him all playing in a very attacking side. For a player like him it was the perfect environment, going into a team of star players in the CL is a big step up.

Shevchenko about the same level, good goalscorer, never looked at him and thought "what a stunning footballer he is."
