Aren't the FA Cup final and Europe with Hull the same achievement? So he's achieved one thing in his career, where even he has admitted they got lucky with their draws along the way. Wow what an amazing 20 years he's had in the sport. That one achievement is meant to somehow offset a fucking 30% win percentage. Edit - a 28.1% win percentage

This must be alright to put on here given it's from the PL's own YouTube channel? It's class like.

"Gonzo" - since you registered on 26th June and a lot of us have been here ages, maybe you should just fuck off instead? Thx xxx -
Last few sentences tell you everything you need to know. "It puts us with two at the top end of the pitch, which gives you a chance. "The last three or four months ththey've been playing that way anyway - certainly with three centre-backs. "We'll have a crack." Could you imagine being a player listening to that garbage compared to Benitez? Ryder is just another Anal Oliver clone. He’s on easy street now, pfm quotes galore. Why have all of the top clubs you're saying we can't get anywhere near been playing 1 upfront for over a decade then? They defensive? Bellend. OK it's just struck me that in some perverse way I've missed this Pardew's back, lads.

How's his GRAFT?! -
It's because they're not that bothered about getting the deals done, simple as that. Never have been, never will be. If we're sailing close to relegation in January they'll panic and make signings, like they did with Shelvey/Townsend, or Debuchy/Sissoko etc. Bare Minimum Football Club, that's us.

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/alan-pardew-newcastle-united-cant-5747224 They're similar to those quotes tbh, no need to say it and designed to downplay expectations and make his job easier. Google "Pardew Newcastle can't compete" and check out the many, many instances where Pardew wanted to tell us who were bigger than us. This is the first time Bruce has said it but it won't be the last. And the other clubs he references will most likely get smaller and smaller.

You could take it as a statement of ambition. Acknowledging that we're not going to be competing with Liverpool or Manchester City this season isn't the crime of the century. Going after a cup is a decent goal for a club in our position with our current ownership and manager. Again, can any of you disagree with anything he's said in that quote? Why are you carrying on like you've not been around watching the situation intently for the last 12 years Ashley has been here? It's all about context rather than taking his quotes at face value. I've seen very similar quotes from Ashley and Pardew down the years but then we never even try in the cups, or ever have a vaguely exciting league season as the likes of Wolves have recently without breaking the top 6. I disagree with the quotes because there's no need to talk us down versus other clubs and I don't believe him regarding the cups. I just don't think we need to vilify the guy for a fairly innocuous quote stating the obvious when there's so much more to go after him with. Fucking ManDoon Exactly, just playing in to the deluded geordie rhetoric. What?

I doubt the managers of Wolves, Everton, West Ham or Leicester are prattling on about not being able to compete with the top 6 in the press. Besides the fact it is not a helpful attitude for the manager of the club to be broadcasting in public, it's a diversion tactic - distract attention from our self-imposed ceiling by pointing about 10 places upwards moaning that something nobody expects us to achieve is unachievable. The manager shouldn't be commenting on what we can't do, trying to lower expectations before a ball is even kicked. He's a self-serving loser, like Pardew was. And unsurprisingly it's the same strawman bullshit argument his new boss peddles in the press whenever interviewed.

I've not been looking much at Bruce's quotes tbh but it seems we're back to the Pards-esque message that we should all be delighted to make up the numbers in the Premier League, all of this after Benitez had been saying we should aim for miles better with sensible investment. No wonder people are furious. I don't care enough to be furious right now, but not happy I'll have to listen to that self-defeating patter all over again.

The time to make small concessions to Rafa had been and gone before they started discussing a new contract. He was backed fairly well the first summer after we dropped down, not that we weren't in massive profit in net spend terms but he was allowed to overhaul the squad and buy who he thought he needed regardless of age or whatever. That's how it should be, you hire the manager and you back him within your means and within reason. What followed was inexplicable but not surprising - Ashley bringing in his mate Justin Barnes who nobody really knows anything about other than him being described as "abrasive" in the press. And what do you know, suddenly we couldn't get any deals done anymore and Rafa had to put up with their bullshit for 4 consecutive transfer windows, seemingly being given some leeway at last for Almiron in the last window. So Ashley backed himself into the corner of having to make big guarantees to Rafa and it seems to me like there wasn't much said that didn't indicate more of the same. Having to battle against Ashley and his mates even to make steady progress, and nobody can blame him for walking out. We'll look back on it wondering how Rafa was our manager for so long under Ashley tbh.
