Had a thought about the next World Cup with it being 48 teams. Have 12 groups of 4. Top 2 go through. Leaves you with 24 teams. Top performing 8 group winners get a bye to last 16. Remaining 16 play each other in a last 16 qualifier. Winners play the 8 who got a bye. Then it works like any last 16. I don't think teams getting a bye is ideal but it gives teams an incentive to go all out for wins and goals in the group stages. And it keeps the 4 team group format where 2 go through. Surely better than what has been suggested.

1st half of Swiss-Serbs was the best 45 minutes of the tournament so far imo. Shame the 2nd half started with a Switzerland goal and they were so robust after that. Great goal though, and impressive from the Swiss seeing it out so comfortably. Serbia obviously a flawed side but were involved in 3 of the most entertaining games so far. Mad fuckers.
