Gonna be a wreck tomorrow, already feel a bit sickly. Typical arrogant English wanker.

Walker's underhit pass to Stones wasn't even his worst error last night imo, it was the one in the box where he didn't even spot their player running in behind him and just left the ball rolling into a very dangerous area. Could have easily resulted in a goal. Agree with whoever said yesterday he's fine in a back three but he doesn't fill me with confidence at full back and I'd be tempted to twist going into the semi.
-
Not to dwell on negatives but I hope the coaching staff are looking very closely at Kyle Walker. He dropped a couple of clangers first half that could have resulted in goals and has looked the weak link at the back for most of the tournament. Wouldn't be averse to Trippier or James coming in.

Blows England's performance out of the water.

Class that like. Lots of things are coming together at exactly the right time - Kane amongst the goals, set piece goals, Shaw a creative outlet, no suspensions or injuries going into the semis, options off the bench looking good. Fantastic performance. The next two games will be tougher but we are in with a very good shout now.

Not bad.

I'm totally with Beren here in that the performances have been really unconvincing (that's a great post btw), however there is something somewhat intangible under the surface here that is getting us results not seen for many years. There is a togetherness, we're more organised and can execute a plan, we're more composed in defence. I didn't rate Southgate before England and I still have my grumbles re the attacking talent we're not utilising. But you can't argue with the results we've seen recently. A semi final run followed by quarters or better in this tournament is absolutely fantastic by recent England standards. And people can say what they like about us not beating anyone big Germany-aside, but we did get knocked out by Iceland under Hodgson recently and we've seen big teams knocked out by lesser sides during these Euros. I want us playing more attractive football and we really should do so against Ukraine but my mentality has switched a bit now we're in the knockouts, in that the main priority now is to win.
-
Do people reckon we'll go back to 4231 the next game? If so I'd be surprised if it wasn't Mount who came in as Southgate seems to trust him the most.
-
I couldn't even tell you if that game was entertaining or not, although it clearly wasn't a classic. My heart was in my mouth the whole fucking game, micro-managing every moment in my stupid annoying head. It was tense throughout, as high stakes knockout games should be. And what a difference a loud partisan crowd makes. First time I can recall Wembley sounding good on the telly since the nineties.

The end justified the means. On 70 minutes it was looking dodgy imo, the Germans were far more composed on the ball and we'd become disjointed. Grealish sub worked out fantastically and Shaw was a big attacking influence late on too. I do think we're still playing within ourselves but the result is all that matters in these games and we've managed it. Absolutely delighted.

He's playing 8 defensive minded players out of 11. I expected it but I'm not happy about it. If the wingbacks get forward it might work but it's about as defensive a lineup as he could have named. Not expecting much attacking flair tonight but hopefully they prove me wrong. Unlike the groups I'm far more interested in the result than the performance tonight.

Here he is.

I can keep going.

I'm not surprised at the 343, I worry about the potential gaping void between attack and midfield again though. There's no creativity there unless the wing backs are bombing forward. Hope we at least see Henderson starting as he isn't as averse to a forward ball or movement as Rice and Phillips.

That fucking band, man. They create the absolute least intimidating atmosphere in world football. And they seem to think they're a vital cog in the machine as well. Arseholes.
