Their ability to be competitive in the Champions League is evident in their qualification status. The thing is though at this level the other team will always have chances, despite you being the better team or not. PSG had chances against us when we thrashed them 4-1, USG had chances against us, and yes Benfica had some chances against us. Olympiacos had plenty of chances against Barcelona last night, and lost 6-1. The reason why it was a shock that PSG won with such a big margin and so convincing against Inter in the final is that at this level it’s so unusual to do so. The same applies at Premier League level, rarely dos a game go by where the opposition don’t have chances. I guess when you have spent 8 years watching League One and Championship football where it is a case of not being the totally gash team and you’ll win, it’s hard to process that. Fo what it’s worth, I thought we were convincingly the better team and full deserved our lead, and the Benfica manager who is regarded as one of the best managers in modern football even said this in his post match press conference. Who us and him to know better than RTG though?

I heard Benfica fans a couple of times in the first half in the Gallowgate East corner. I couldn’t hear anything from elsewhere in the ground except for our section and when the Gallowgate end joined in with the SBR chants. I’ve alway praised the back of the Gallowgate for their atmosphere, but it seemed like they were the first fans to leave last night, well before the full time whilst. To be honest it was the same when I had my season ticket there 20 years ago. I sat behind the walkway and the last 10 minutes of every match was just people standing in front of me waiting for an attack to breakdown before sliding down to the concourse, same just before half time as well. People need to cut it out to be honest. People complaining that they can’t get a ticket, then everyone complaining about the price of a ticket, and it’s the same people who arrive late, leave for HT early, come back to the 2nd half late, and leave before FT. Just watch it on TV instead and you can have your snacks, drinks, and pisser all at the ready. On the same topic, can people stop going and getting pelted with drink so that they spend all the match letting off boozy farts that everyone else has to fucking sniff please? You have to drink a serious amount to be like that, just fucking reach a limit for fuck sake.
