Problem with Ramos is that he's a gifted player but his decision-making has always been terrible. He was always caught off position when he was a RB, and finds himself always in the wrong place as a midfielder. That's why he has such a collection of red cards, too. He's succeeded as a centreback because it's the position with the least leeway to move around and f*** things up. Mourinho was smart when he moved him there.

Pardew-esque, then I personally don't think he's getting the best from the players he has; but he came midseason and has achieved the basic objective of steering them away from the relegation spots. But Real Sociedad should be challenging for Europe, and they would be doing that if they had been more consistent under Moyes. Again, I think he deserves a preseason and the opportunity to put his stamp on the team.

Real Sociedad just broke a Carver-esque 6 game winless run this week, Moyes isn't really being *that* great for them.

Pepe has more experience in that role, Mourinho played him there quite a few times. Wasn't that in a midfield 3 and purely as a destroyer? I reckon Ancelotti reckons Ramos can ball some in midfield. He can't. And must get back in defence for the return leg. I've seen Bale have maybe 3 good games for Real this season. They play essentially with a midfield three. Ramos-Kroos-James. Pepe would be better, imho. And yes, Bale has had a shocking season. With James and Kroos, Madrid play more intricate football this season, Bale just isn't in that wavelength.

I get the feeling that Juve has missed the chance to win the tie in these dying minutes. Llorente has fluffed two great chances.
