Did you watch the game or are you looking at the stats? I watched the full game and thought he was very poor. Doubt he'll get more than a 5/10 from any of the reporters there yesterday. In saying that, bar maybe the first 20 minutes nobody really had a decent game other than perhaps Elliott and Janmaat. For such an important game the worrying thing was there didn't seem much urgency to go and win it, especially against a team who had lost their last 4 league games.
-
Broken record. He's taking us down but worryingly he doesn't realise it. Same every week; "played well, did everything but score etc etc".
-
I dare say if you had took him out of our team for every match since the start of the season, and replaced him with a goalscorer (like Austin) we'd have 9-12 more points on the board. He has 4 goals so far, a header vs Man C, a cracking left footer against Norwich, a 2yd'er vs Spuds and a Penalty against Manure. I am not sure we would to be honest. He's got a better all round game than Austin (and I think a higher ceiling of ability). We clearly should have bought both but I can see why we went for him over Austin. Happy for this to be quoted in years to come but I'm not convinced Austin will score that many at Soton. He hasn't got a better all round game than Austin at all. Other than possibly some decent hold up/link up play I'm struggling to see what he actually does well. Movement and awareness is poor, he's not very quick or alert inside the box and the less said about his finishing (the most important attribute for any striker) the better.
-
Same as. If we don't buy a decent striker we're down. Buy one and we should stay up.
-
Poor today but I saw enough last week to suggest he'll be an important player for us this season and beyond.
-
Shelvey had a go at him in the 2nd half today for his lack of movement. If we don't buy a proper striker this month we're down. He'll be lucky to bag another 3 goals from now till the end of the season which is no good to us whatsoever.
-
Interesting he was complaining about the lack of movement from our forward players today. Pretty good that he has noticed in 2 games what most people haven't all season.
-
garbage That's one word to describe him.
-
He's nowhere near as good as people on here make out. Same as Vernon Anita. It took this message board 2 years longer than everyone else to work out he was useless.

I believe Saturday is classified as the weekend. So is Sunday I think. Anyway just made a donation.

Why not go the whole hog, run on the pitch and suck him off every time he saves one of our shots as well? With your support he might just put on a performance of a lifetime to help his new club to 3 valuable points in a crucial relegation match. The old St James' crowd would have made it so hostile for him he would have had a stinker and sh*t himself every time the ball came into the penalty area. I remember their keeper, Tim Carter putting 4 or 5 goal kicks in a row straight out for throw ins because of the stick he got up here in the early 90's. We had a proper home crowd back then though, not a loaf of spineless happy clappers. The same hostile St James' crowd that clapped David Kelly on the field as a Mackem in the derby one year? Can't believe anyone would be so ignorant as to compare the two. David Kelly was a legend. He scored the most important goal in the modern day history for Newcastle United. We were staring into the abyss before his goal against Portsmouth and those of us lucky to be there that day will never forget it. Certainly I've never celebrated, or seen celebrations like there were that day. He could do what he wanted after that. Comparing him to someone who sat on our bench for the best part of 20 years and taking £millions for doing so man

This. And this. Aye, this too! FFS!!! Think we can work out by association who the sneaky untrustworthy b****** in this equation really is, aye?! Milner knew my mate well and it turned into a bit of a running joke with them. Secondly he wasn't a good servant to us. He made £millions sitting on the bench doing nowt other than training 3 hours a day. Shearer was a good servant, Rob Lee, Pavel etc. They earned what the club paid them. Harper made £millions from sitting on a bench watching better goalkeepers than him perform because he didn't fancy moving away and playing first team football somewhere.
-
Remember him once saying his family was split 50/50 us/them but he was black and white. If he plays against us lets just hope he does the goalkeeping equivalent of what Chopra did.

He's been a total non entity as a professional footballer. Literally made a living out of not quite being good enough so playing the dependable understudy. Fitting that he'll end his time at Sunderland. My mate whos round was Darras Hall when he worked for the Royal Mail always said you couldn't meet a more rude, ignorant person than Steve Harper and used to hate having to get him to sign for parcels. As a side note he loved delivering to James Milner who used to order a ridiculous amount of porn but was a top bloke!

won't do though the land is being sold off and the fans are not putting up enough fuss so unfortunately we are f***ed with this size stadium forever Tbh, we don't need a bigger stadium, we wouldn't fill it. Even back during the Robson era there were empty seats at most league matches, for the Champions League matches it was half empty. Maybe if we had Dortmund-esque ticket prices it would be different, but that's just a pipe-dream in modern top flight English football, never going to happen anywhere. The Robson era was good but we never actually won anything or even managed a cup final. Only a fool would argue that we couldn't fill a far larger stadium if we'd banked the trophies the likes of Man City and Chelsea have recently.

They don't have anywhere near a full stadium for Premier League games either.

Apparently injured and will miss tomorrow's game.

STEVE McCLAREN: 'Your support has been enormous' Hi *****, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your support over a busy period of games recently. In the last two home matches, your support has been enormous for the players and the atmosphere you've generated at St. James’ Park has been absolutely electric. On Saturday, we started well and despite moments of pressure in the second half, you stayed right behind the team. To have the disappointment we had at Arsenal and Watford, the players fought hard to bounce back against Manchester United midweek and we made a terrific start at the weekend against West Ham. Considering it was the third game in a week and we more or less named the same team, I’ve got to admire the players for the character and attitude they showed. It was a tough period. The goal against Manchester United at the end, the way you responded and the atmosphere you created, it was quite an emotional point. To recover quickly and go again as they did on Saturday proves that the squad is getting better and progressing. In many respects, we’ve been playing very well and not getting the rewards for it. It takes a lot of mental strength to keep doing that so I’m delighted we got what we deserved in the end. Now, we have to keep our momentum and that starts with recovery this week and the right preparation for Watford. Maintaining our fight and spirit is also vital. That’s the minimum we expect, the minimum you expect and the minimum the players should expect of themselves. We coped very well at Vicarage Road last time out and while we didn’t deserve to lose, we know it will be tough on Saturday. We start every game from zero and we know if we’re not right attitude-wise and we don’t put the work in, Watford can hurt us. I was delighted to hear that we have another sold out away end for the game on Saturday and I’d like to wish everyone who is travelling a safe and pleasant journey. Home and away, your support continues to be hugely important to the team and we’ll be working hard to give you the performance and result your support deserves. Steve McClaren

If I were you I would just delete all that.

I got thrown out and had my season ticket taken off me for fighting with the person in front. Had a pop at me for calling Sammy Ameobi sh*te and I lost my rag.
-
Aye 3 years ago to the day when he completely lost the crowd. And this thread has turned to sh*t as well.
-
More confident than I was last week. If we bring in Townsend and a striker surely that team would have enough to secure the 6 wins needed from now till the end of the season to stay up.
