  1. It's everything to do with your point. Signing managers on 8 year deals and young players on 5 and 6 year contracts is anything but short term thinking. Bringing in loads of loan players and players at the end of their careers as Sunderland do for example is short term thinking.
  2. Bored of short term. We've been doing short term for years now. Our cycle is pretty much "do f*** all" -> "nearly go down" -> "panic buy" -> "survive by skin of teeth", and then repeat. The only chance of me getting any enjoyment is if we play our own players and look like we're doing something useful as a club. Loaning mercenaries doesn't appeal to me. We hand our coaching team 8 year contracts and our signings are given 5-6 year deals. Anything but short term.
  3. Just had an email from NUFC advising me that tickets for tonight's game are available up until half time from the Milburn Stand box office.
  4. Got to be honest in this day and age I couldn't really care less what treatment your average PL footballer gets from the fans. I can't be bothered with most of them anyway and as I'm no longer a match going fan it doesn't really affect me. If those that still want to boo do so then crack on for me.
  5. Didn't he get booed because he dived and pretended to be injured when we were 1-0 down? That's what I heard. If so fair enough.
  6. That sort of goal tally would probably be enough to win a player cult status at this club these days tbh. Nah Cisse got that inside a dozen games not that long ago and he's not all that popular!
  7. Not at all. I don't see him ever becoming a 20 goals+ a season striker but that doesn't mean I'm writing him off. Let's face it how many strikers score more than 20 league goals a season these days?
  8. Never understood booing your own players unless they're really taking the p*ss like some have. I really don't see how it's going to help the lad improve. It's especially harsh since he's lived off a few 5-10 minute cameos when we're already behind in the past few months. Can't remember ever booing one of our own players myself but don't really have a problem with it depending on the circumstances. Fans pay a fortune to follow their team these days and if they think one of the players is taking the pi$$ out of them they're within their rights to let him know. It's something that's always happened. Remember when I first started going regularly the likes of Wayne Fereday and Kevin Brock used to get absolutely slaughtered at times and they were only being paid a few hundred quid a week for the privilege.
  9. Changed times. I remember when this was the biggest fixture in our Calendar. Tickets used to sell out mega quick and the buzz around the town pre match was amazing. Forward to 2016, around 7,000 unsold tickets 7 hours before kick off and the atmosphere will be flat as a fart. We'll start on the back foot hoping for the odd counter attack before succoming to the inevitable 1 or 2-0 defeat.
  10. I'm not writing him off, that would be silly after 20 games, but I doubt he'll become a cult hero either like. In time I think he could become a decent 10-12 goal a season striker but I don't think he has enough attributes to be much more than that. He hasn't got much pace (can't coach that), his finishing isn't the best (he can improve that hopefully), his general movement and alertness to situations isn't great (can be improved) and his general hold up play is decent. There's something there to work with but not enough to be a top striker at Premier League level. Time will tell.
  11. 46 goals in 11 years. Get him signed!!!
  12. We haven't got time to persist with a striker who can't score and constantly passes up on the chances he does get. Short term gain is what we need right now, football is a short term sport with the average manager being in his position 18 months, not all this 8 year contract rubbish for stability. If Remy can come in and do what he did last time it can only be a good thing. It'll also take some of the pressure off Mitrovic as he wont be expected to be our main source of goals and we can use him more sparingly. I'm not saying go down the mackem route of borrowing half a team but the odd loan signing here and there, under the right circumstances can be hugely beneficial.
  13. Surely there'll be relegation clauses suited to both parties for any players we sign this month.
  14. Wouldn't do any more business with them out of principle after they lumbered us with Gouffran.
  15. Aye it's about the going rate and if signing him and the lad from Bordeaux keep Anita and Colback out the team it's money well spent.
  16. Just remembering his "judge me after 10 games" statement at the beginning of the season. Well after 20 games (plus 3 cup games) it's clear that he's completely clueless, out of his depth and even worse than we all feared. Worryingly I don't see where he can go from here, he's racking up failure after failure on his CV, so I can't see him being too quick to hold his hands up, admit he's not up to it, and walk away because after this I think he's done as a manager, certainly in the top 2 divisions.
  17. That ref is a proper homer mind. Loves giving the home team dodgy pens as we know too well.
  18. Promised myself I would never get to my Pardew levels of hatred for him but he's not making it easy for me.
  19. A proper club would have sacked him well before now.
