He's been a total non entity as a professional footballer. Literally made a living out of not quite being good enough so playing the dependable understudy. Fitting that he'll end his time at Sunderland. My mate whos round was Darras Hall when he worked for the Royal Mail always said you couldn't meet a more rude, ignorant person than Steve Harper and used to hate having to get him to sign for parcels. As a side note he loved delivering to James Milner who used to order a ridiculous amount of porn but was a top bloke!
  2. won't do though the land is being sold off and the fans are not putting up enough fuss so unfortunately we are f***ed with this size stadium forever Tbh, we don't need a bigger stadium, we wouldn't fill it. Even back during the Robson era there were empty seats at most league matches, for the Champions League matches it was half empty. Maybe if we had Dortmund-esque ticket prices it would be different, but that's just a pipe-dream in modern top flight English football, never going to happen anywhere. The Robson era was good but we never actually won anything or even managed a cup final. Only a fool would argue that we couldn't fill a far larger stadium if we'd banked the trophies the likes of Man City and Chelsea have recently.
  3. They don't have anywhere near a full stadium for Premier League games either.
  4. Apparently injured and will miss tomorrow's game.
  5. STEVE McCLAREN: 'Your support has been enormous' Hi *****, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your support over a busy period of games recently. In the last two home matches, your support has been enormous for the players and the atmosphere you've generated at St. James’ Park has been absolutely electric. On Saturday, we started well and despite moments of pressure in the second half, you stayed right behind the team. To have the disappointment we had at Arsenal and Watford, the players fought hard to bounce back against Manchester United midweek and we made a terrific start at the weekend against West Ham. Considering it was the third game in a week and we more or less named the same team, I’ve got to admire the players for the character and attitude they showed. It was a tough period. The goal against Manchester United at the end, the way you responded and the atmosphere you created, it was quite an emotional point. To recover quickly and go again as they did on Saturday proves that the squad is getting better and progressing. In many respects, we’ve been playing very well and not getting the rewards for it. It takes a lot of mental strength to keep doing that so I’m delighted we got what we deserved in the end. Now, we have to keep our momentum and that starts with recovery this week and the right preparation for Watford. Maintaining our fight and spirit is also vital. That’s the minimum we expect, the minimum you expect and the minimum the players should expect of themselves. We coped very well at Vicarage Road last time out and while we didn’t deserve to lose, we know it will be tough on Saturday. We start every game from zero and we know if we’re not right attitude-wise and we don’t put the work in, Watford can hurt us. I was delighted to hear that we have another sold out away end for the game on Saturday and I’d like to wish everyone who is travelling a safe and pleasant journey. Home and away, your support continues to be hugely important to the team and we’ll be working hard to give you the performance and result your support deserves. Steve McClaren

If I were you I would just delete all that.
  7. I got thrown out and had my season ticket taken off me for fighting with the person in front. Had a pop at me for calling Sammy Ameobi sh*te and I lost my rag.
  8. Aye 3 years ago to the day when he completely lost the crowd. And this thread has turned to sh*t as well.
  9. More confident than I was last week. If we bring in Townsend and a striker surely that team would have enough to secure the 6 wins needed from now till the end of the season to stay up.
  10. How would someone even afford that? Incredible dedication. He once sold his mams fridge to go to Everton.
  11. He'd never missed a Newcastle match in Britain (friendlies included) since 1968. I'll go onto that just giving page at dinner time to contribute towards a decent send off for the lad.
  12. Woodgate was a class act but lets be honest, he hardly played. For that reason I would have Albert in ahead of him. Anyway we're drifting off topic here so that's my final word on it!
  13. There's having favourite players and that but Robert doesn't belong alongside those two like. Not going to argue it with you or anything because obviously it's all down to opinions and everything, I just can't see how you'd have Robert alongside those two and that's before getting onto having him ahead of the likes of Lee and Cole. All about opinions of course but Robert was capable of doing things Lee and Cole could only dream of. On that basis, I'd bring up Ginola and HBA, who did things that Robert could only dream of. I get your point though. Their goal tallys and assists don't come near to Roberts though. He was far more productive as an attacking force. Have to say loved them both as well mind. One of them should still be here.

  15. Beardsley, Shearer and Robert are our 3 best Premier League era players imo.
  16. He's a totally different player to Toure and Lampard man. Toure in particular is a proper box to box player due to his physique and athleticism and is constantly involved in games. Wijnaldum isn't that type of player. He flits in and out of games and pops up in the opposition half and does bits of magic and pops up with a large amount of goals and assists. Thankfully McClaren doesn't see him the way you do because he'd be badly exposed in the role you championed him for.
  17. Yeah, Demba Ba would have had 2 or 3 today. Misstrovic is a good all around player, but he is paid to score goals, the one thing missing from his game. Hope we aren't relegated on the back of that fact. As if the reason we go down if we do will be down to him. There's 11 players on the pitch and they are all to blame, not just one guy who barely gets chances most weeks to begin with. I remember you. You're the one who wanted Wijnaldum (our top scorer) played in a more defensive role at the start of the season so I don't take you all that seriously but clearly nobody is saying Mitrovic's misses will be the sole reason we go down, if we were to. They would just be a part of a culmination of reasons going back a long time. He's had quite a few chances in our last half dozen games and has a solitary penalty to show for it. He's playing quite well and had a really good game yesterday but ultimately a striker is judged on how many goals he scores and the lad needs to start scoring soon. Wijnaldum doesn't get that many chances either but he's more than doubled Mitrovic's tally.
  18. As well as he's played since he cane in for Krul I'll never forget this and what it says about him as a professional.
  19. Correct, but he has it in him to be just that. That remains to be seen. I hope you're right. Actually his general all round play outside the penalty area was really good but he's an awful finisher. I always think a strikers instinct is one thing you can't teach someone.
  20. Just seen it on Keith Barrett's Facebook before there. Very sad to hear the news. He followed Newcastle everywhere, never missed a game and was one of the most recognisable faces in the stands. RIP Cliffy
  21. We'd have scored 4 or 5 today with a proper centre forward.
  22. RIP Cliffy. A bit of an eccentric but a really canny, and harmless fella. Literally followed NUFC everywhere. I was talking to him at the FA Youth Cup match against Chelsea last season and didn't think he looked too well back then.
  23. It's clear what Beautiful Day is saying. You buy proven Premier League players, ie Shelvey, they're more likely to come in and make an immediate impact, which is what we need, than a player signed from the French League. Surely that's why they cost more. Hopefully he can settle in quickly and benefit from playing next to Shelvey.
