What's unnecerssary about the League Cup. It's a chance to win a trophy. As for tiredness, it's one of the reasons people roll out when explaining why they palyed a vastly inferior team in a cup match. It's all a crock of shit. We should be putting out pretty much our best side in every game. Do people seriously not want us to have a bash at getting to the QF or SF in the League Cup? If I turn up to a first team match I expect to see the first team. If I wanted to watch the reserves or youth I'd go to one of their games. You can come up with as many pansy reasons as you like, we shouldn't be resting players and that is that.
-
Exactly. We should be playing nearly a full strength side no matter who we are up against. Maybe swap the keeper as there is no great difference between them IMO, and certainly leave out Enrique. But other than that I see no need to swap players about, it's the start of the season FFS, they can't be tired already. And as for the risk of injury, didn't Best just get injured in training. Maybe we should stop them doing that just incase. They should be able to cope with the number of games. Especially as they will be playing 8 less league games this season anyway
-
It will do us no favours to play a load of the youngster though. They will get very little out of it and it would be more beneficial to get a good win under our belts. By all means rest two or three KEY players but not 8 or 9 like we did last year.
-
Away to anybody down south. Shall we say, Northampton and downwards. Brentford would be ideal. I can walk to their ground in 5 mins. And I hope we don't play a weakened side. I went to POSH last year and was really quite fucked off with the ineptitude of the performance. Let's at least try and get to the latter stages. We're not Manchester Unite/City/Arsenal. We don't have 3 ranks of premeier league quality players sitting around not playing.
-
I'd have to agree I would prefer Arsenal over anyone else. After that, I suppose Everton but they've got no chance. Then in order Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, City, Man United.
-
You're joking right? I like Holloway, but that would be quite a risk. Somehow I think he'd do a fantastic job at a big(ish) club. Would love him to be our manager, he's just so much more interesting than our Chris.
-
Fair play to the lad. Capello thought David James and Rob Green were better than him 2 months ago so why would he rate him now? He's never going to be first choice again so he might aswell concentrate on having a good few seasons with his club.
-
As fans we surely have to expect to get nothing from a trip to Old Trafford. If we come away with a good performance that can give some optimism for the season ahead that will do me just fine. I'll take a gritty battling show from the lads culminating in a narrow defeat, maybe unjustly off a dodgy decision. As long as we don't get embarrassed, I wouldn't be able to deal with the suicidal rants we'll get on here if we take a hammering. Let's see how they (and more specifically Rooney) perform in the CS today though, they might be well out of sorts.

Given the fixture list update I assume this is now absolutely 100% confirmed then Stu?
-
I change my mind on this every day. One thing is certain, we'll be closer in points to 20th than we will be to 8th. Right now I'm thinking that a lack of goals is going to cost us in games where we have reasonable possession. But I think we will just scrape enough points to stay ahead of three from Blackpool, West Brom, Wigan and Bolton and Wolves. But it'll be tight. Very, Very, Very tight. Like a tiger.
-
So is this confirmed now for the 16th?? I mean absolutely 100% confirmed not going to change in a couple of weeks.
-
What's the club called?
-
Chester Gravesend Dagenham (merged with Redbridge to 'survive') Halifax Town Hayes (merged with Yeading to 'survive') Milton Keynes City Probably a few more. Dagenham and Redbridge was a marriage of convenience. As was Hayes and Yeading. Both clubs were stable on their own but one merged with the other in order to preserve status and generate income via ground sale and an expected increase in support. Grevesend & Northfleet changed their name to Ebbsfleet, nothing else changed. Scarborough Athletic play in the Northern Counties East Premier Division, they were formed to replace the defunct club much like the new Halifax.

If I come to that it means I miss the mackems match as I can't do both.
-
Can I offer another sugestion for a date. Saturday 30th October? We're playing the mackems on the Sunday so the saturday will be free for a game followed by a session in town.

Lovely comments there about a club like Plymouth, who showed us a massive amount of decency and respect in April. Plymouth is more west of London than south. Considerably further south than Portsmouth.
-
How are they different?? Because they have some fans. So what, the other clubs that went out of business were just as important to their own fans as portsmouth are to theirs. I am from the south and to say that there are only WC fans or Rugger Buggers south of London is just utterly ridiculous. What makes one club more important than another. If NUFC were in this position then we would all moan and cry and shout to the rafters that it is unfair and we deserve special treatment but the fact would remain we wouldn't. When my business went under did anyone make a case for me. Like fuck did they. I owed money so people got paid with what little I had and I ended up bankrupt. Maybe the Pompey fans should look at themselves and consider why they did nothing about the state their club was getting in. Oh, that's right they were all too happy to turn a blind eye to the obvious while they were winning the FA Cup. Once they start losing they ask where did all the money go? Err, on signing those players you couldn't afford on your income, dumbass!
-
Portsmouth can still have a football club. They'll just have one that reforms somewhere in the non-league pyramid. There is no reason why they should be let off just because they are a football club. At least they'll get to see a few seasons of consecutive winning as with the fanbase they have they'll be able to afford the best players at that level just like AFC Norbiton's ground stealers have done. Chester, Gretna, Scarborough, Clydebank. They have all been wound up. It also happened to many clubs years ago. Aldershot being the last for a while in 1992. Why should Pompey be let off.
-
Aside from actually sticking it in the net, until the shoot-out that is, we looked half decent. I'm still of the opinion that we could finish anywhere between 9th and 20th. I see very little difference between the sides once you forget about Man U, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton and Villa.
-
Aye, you're Forest Hall's answer to Jose.
-
Good predictions Or sneaky edits. Probably said we'd go straight through the leagues. Dave blatantly knows how to hide an edit.
-
The NOFC lads will be playing in his honour tomorrow morning. Let's hope we can gain our first ever victory and dedicate it to Sir Bobby.
-
Nah there was a foreign guy a few weeks ago who for his first ever post bumped some insanely random thread! Really. Link?? I gots to see me that shit. Them foreigners are crazy.
-
And the random thread bump of the year award goes to........................................

Indeed, a great report Chris. But it begs the question, why does somebody with such obvious knowledge of the game who can write about it so well, play it so utterly atrociously?
