Staines away. God no. I already go there once a year as it is, and that's enough. Plus there would only be enough room for about 1000 of us. Would end up being played at Brentford probably. I'd say a nice easy home draw against somebody rubbish, or an away game where there is enough room for us to take a decent following.

The other thing to consider with Jonas is the understanding he has with Enrique. They look comfortable together and it sometimes looks like Jose is the only player that Jonas wants to pass the ball to. Betweeen the two of them they give us a great left side. Granted the end product is usually a huge let down but he will normally find one good ball a game. He also draws his fair share of free-kicks and throw-ins in the opposition half. Although I agree he was mostly shocking last night, the thing that impressed me was in the last 10 when we were under pressure, if the ball dropped to him he was confident and comfortable enough to carry it 40 yards out of danger, a couple of times winning us a throw near the half way line. The rest of the players were just humping it straight back to PNE defenders to start another attack. Can't see us replacing him with anybody better at this stage.
-
Agreed, for the most part he's been outstanding this season. Can't really remember any glaring errors, which to me is thefirst thing to consider when picking a goalkeeper. I can't see it happening but I don't see how he can't be in contention when the rest of the choices are James, Green, Robinson, Foster & Hart. Even the young POSH keeper got a call up. Would be great to see an NUFC player boarding the plane to SA in the summer.

Shirley you'd play Parker above Bowyer. Otherwise, you'd be just a little bit pleased if that team walked out onto the pitch at SJP this weekend.

Don't tend to venture into the city too often but if, for whatever reason, I can't watch the game at home - wifus interuptus most likely - then I'll check it out.
-
Me neither. How can you criticise someone who gave over a decade of loyal service any club just because he left, especially one who single handedly won so many points over the years. Ok, he could have waited till the summer but I'm sure the board had to accept the offer first before he had a chance to discuss terms with City. He's been critical of the regime and even managed to slip in a few "We's" when on Sky at the Sheff Utd game. He clearly still thinks a lot of the club. It the same as the people who abused gareth barry after 12 years at Villa. Short memories.

Defenders 'seeing the ball out'. Yeah, if you are by the goal line then fine, but don't start dancing around the ball 20 yards back stopping your opponent having a fair crack at the ball. It's obstruction and should be punished every time. You couldn't do it any other time but if your 'seeing it out' it's fine. On that note I also hate when referees don't give decisions in/around the box when it would blatantly be a free-kick if it was on the half way line. If it's a foul, it's a foul no matter where it takes place.

Where do you think the scottish parliament gets it's money??
-
I do recall hearing somewhere, not sure where, that both the old firm clubs are basically living on borrowed time in the SPL. The wages they pay to try and compete in europe can't be sustained by the money they make in scotland. Celtic are a bit better off as they have the fella with pots of cash backing them but in the long term the only way for them to survive is by joining the Premier League or a European Super League.

I'm not one to ever advocate violence and I'm not going to start now, it's just not my outlook on life. Having said that I am amazed that so far the fat man has escaped without anyone sticking one on him. Is his security that good? Don't you wish you could go back to two years ago, when he was standing in amongst the fans, and obviously knowing how it would all turn out, deal with him there and then.

Tough game this one. I'd like to think that we can shake off our current form following the win over Donny, but somehow I think this is going to be a struggle. Established top six team at this level, consistently there or there abouts for the last 10 years. For me it depends entirely on if Tayls and Colo are back. If they are I see us keeping a clean sheet so 1-0 or 2-0 not beyond consideration. If not I can't see us keeping them out for 90 minutes so we'll need to score 2 or possily 3 to get the win. After all considered I'll go for 2-2. Ranger and Nolan (again). Team (hopefully all injury free) Harper Simpson S.Taylor Colo Enrique R.Taylor Smith Nolan Jonas Carroll Ranger Subs; Krul, Kadar, Guthrie, Butt, Lovenkrands, Harewood, Zurab (suspension allowing) if not one from LuaLua/Tozer/Donaldson/Vukic/other random youngster.

A lot better than Downing IMO, which is probably why Boro were happy to let him go to Villa. Unlike Downing he has real pace and loves to attack players. His delivery may be a bit more erratic than Downing's but, as has been proven this season, he carries a goal threat whcih is vital if they are going to go up. Be difficult for Boro to hang on to him even if they go up and I fear for their promotion hopes if he gets injured.

It was certainly an exciting game, even if the overall quality was poor. Even the wife enjoyed it (big bonus - might get to go more often now). I agree with the general consensus that Harewood was particularly bad. Very little effort on his part to do anything other than wave his arms about if the ball to him wasn't perfect. I thought Kadar did ok and will certainly improve, far better than Tozer was at POSH in the Carling Cup. We need to play Guthrie inside and have a proper right mid as he plays too central leaving a big space where the wide man should be. Obviously once we have some first choice defenders available I presume this will be rectified. For me Nolan looked good, not special just decent compared to what was around him and Enrique was impressive. Great energy. Ranger really deserves to get another start, his contribution compared to Harewood's was ridiculous. If I was Marlon I'd be embarrassed - although I doubt he has the awarenss to realise how bad he has been playing. Anyway, you can't get a much better feeling than an injury time winner. Let's hope we can get back on track now.

Casillas playing like he wants a transfer to SJP. Loves a good laugh he does.

Do you think they'll do lectures at university or business college on 'Ashley's annexation of the geordies'? Even if it's only as a 'how not to run a business' lesson. Or maybe they could teach it in some sociology class on how to make an entire area of the country simultaneously depressed. Serious question.

In this division any team can win games, it's just that sort of league. What position were Scunny in before last night?? Donny have looked good every time I've seen them on the box, maybe they aren't as good the rest of the time but from what I have seen they always seem to move the ball quikly and fluently. -

I'm hoping that we can get a win as I'm coming up for this game, and bringing the wifefor her first match. Donny are a decent side. They play passing football and can score goals, it'll be another tough one but I reckon we'll just have enough to win this one.* 2-1. * I'm assuming nothing else goes the shape of the pear between now and saturday. -
First time Gibson has ever sacked a manager aswell, which makes it all the more bizarre. But I think Gibson cacked his pants at the falling gates and had already made his mind up to let him go before they got the win last night, the result was irrelevent. Basically he has tried to give Southgate all the time in the world to get it right, but the fans started to vote with their feet. he saw he needed to make a decision and he made it. Good solid chairmanship I reckon, oh for that sort of sense in the boardroom at SJP. The best we can hope for is that they employ Blarney O'Dreary or someone, like southgate, who is new to management. If they get a decent manager we've had it. Cardiff, WBA and Boro will wrap up the top three and we'll be scrapping it with one of them in the playoffs if we are lucky. Slightly off topic, but Adam Johnson is class, with him playing well they'll be up there no matter who is in charge.

set up a 'finale finish' apparently.
-
The code in my booklet doesn't work anyway.
-
Well I was hoping that it would work, but can't say I'm totally surprised that it doesn't.
-
Mick Lowes and John Anderson, apparently.

Cuts out before Kick off. Really?? Haven't listened to it before but it does say 'full live commentary' so would hope not. Makes it more annoying that my nufctv 'free online 2 month trial' voucher doesn't seem to work.

Listening live on BBC Radio Newcastle via the BBC iplayer (so not illeagal!). not sure if it's full live commentary but they are at the game so i'm hopeful.
