It is really because they’ve remained and extended their stadium twice yet they are miles from others and we are miles off them and they’ve took advantage of the old rules. Only way to catch them with the current rules is have a bigger more adaptable stadium. Anfield can’t host any Cup Finals due to pitch size so there is a slender chance of catching them.

Yet you’ll still have people argue that we can remain at SJP.

I was at both. Sheffield United actually started quite well and could’ve been in front first 10-15mins. Sunderland had a 10-15min spell second half also after losing Joelinton. You are right though ultimately both games we were on top for the best part. Struggling to remember a dominant 90mins like you say. Even PSG at home had long spells despite the score line. Maybe Man Utd away one of our best in the cup but they had chances too. Feel like we’ve never recovered from those 71min substitutions against Liverpool at home mentally. Fans also.

Not a big Longstaff fan but not going to be critical of him playing through the pain barrier with injections every game until he gets his operation in the summer. Questions can start to be asked if he continues to play 90mins but it’s not like we have many alternatives so not the biggest surprise if he does either.

Weird one tonight… Expected defeat as our record at Stamford Bridge and on a Monday night would suggest what the outcome would be so no great shock there. So think the disappointment was our basic passing and fight for second balls. Very disjointed.Felt like we were almost treating it like a warm up to make one last big effort in the cup. Surprised Bruno started after the arrival of his child. Thought he’d miss out or maybe start from the bench. For having a longer rest from last game thought everyone looked knackered from the off. Two great goals covered a lot of cracks in the performance. Need some energy/legs in midfield desperately.

You need to factor wage bill in when doing comparisons like this. I agree NET spend usually the fairest when making purchase comparisons but it’s always going to go against us for a few years as we had no one of much worth to sell due to squad neglect.

They were actually in very good form until he joined. Beating Spurs and Arsenal away, Man Utd at home alone in December as well as Wolves and Burnley only losing to Liverpool with a second string team in the Cup but winning twice in Europe and draw against Brighton. Depite his style of play Moyes is no mug let’s be fair and as it stands West Ham are 3 points above us whilst still in Europe. Wasn’t trying to be particularly critical of KP but highlighting those who thought we were being brainless for not loaning him to fix our final run of the season when he’d need to be bedded in here as well as his fitness regained made a massive misjudgement and so far have been proven wrong and those like me thinking he wouldn’t be a quick fix right. Even long term I would’ve had my doubts as I believe he has lost some of that hunger we would demand from what would be an expensive signing for us. He’s on £140kpw which is £30kpw more than Joelinton was demanding and struggling to agree. That and EH doesn’t play with a 6. I’ve never rated him that highly personally and at 28-29 I can’t see him massively improving. He could prove me wrong next season of course but I think we’ll find someone better for less money. The only box he ticked for me was he doesn’t come across as a dickhead.

I see Kalvin Phillips got hooked at HT. Apparently had another mare. Not sure what people thought he’d bring to us after little to no game time for two years and even less hunger to achieve. Don’t wish ill on him as probably a nice lad but glad we never went near him.

Always wanted us to sign him as a Longstaff replacement.

Will be interesting when we get our 80k stadium if that will take fans away due to being offered an either or situation. Or if a totally separate fanbase will grow.

Hopefully one day commentators will remember that less is more.
