Because that’s the only option like, is Lingard going to play for us for free? Or is he going to want a bumper contract due to it being his last pay day and him not having a fee? I also standby the fact that other than a singular loan spell he's not suggested he'd be a massive upgrade. I'm sure there are young players on the continent that we’re currently scouting, which will cost us less and improve the squad more.

What you basing that on? A 6 month loan spell at West Ham which is now a year ago? He was literally a meme for Man Utd prior to that loan spell. He went forever without providing a goal or assist for them. He is now 30 and someone that a club like ours should be avoiding, unless of course he is willing to significantly reduce his wage demands etc. Signing him in January made sense given our desperation and precarious situation, it makes absolutely no sense to continue to pursue it in the summer IMHO.

And if Dan Burn is out on the basis of age, what the hell has Fikayo Tomori gotta do to get a call up?
-
You see I don’t agree with the tried and tested bit towards Lingard, he’s not regularly played for years. He has had a good loan spell and is getting on now. I thought it made sense back in January, but I think there'll be better, younger options available in the summer

stabbed a police dog though, which is somehow not as bad #MackemLogic

he might stop them shipping goals, but it’ll result in them scoring less too. His Palace side had loads of attacking flair and were worse to watch than us under Bruce

Make him watch his letterbox?

I’m pretty sure both of those were Matty not Sean

Chris Wood (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

Well fingers crossed his signing while underwhelming ends up being of the Daryl Murphy or Antoine Sibierski variety, rather than the return of Carroll. I mean even Marlon Harewood even ended up being a useful addition under Hughton. This season is all about staying up. Achieve that and he'll have done the job he was signed for -
Bit rich playing moral arbiter when you write for The Mail no?

As another poster pointed out in the New Manger thread, Howe made Gosling an effective PL midfielder. I wouldn’t totally give up on Joelinton just yet

I guess they’re appropriating Lindisfarne and Tynemouth priory, in the same way they try with the airport ??♂️

And how would you describe our current situation exactly? I certainly hope we’re transitioning to something less sh1t

Just for clarity this is my take on things too. You’re certainly not going to be seeing me giving the Saudi's any positive PR, it’s more just a case of getting annoyed by the direction of travel in the U.K. since 2016 and a lot of people's deliberate myopia over what this government has done in the recent past and continues to do.

Fella look at the numbers of people still executed in the US, oh it’s very clinical and clean but the net effect is still the same. The whole criminal justice system over there is run for profit ffs, large swathes of the brown population incarcerated so that large corporations make money. And until G4S ballsed up over here, we were heading the same way. Yes it’s a different minority targeted, but that sure doesn’t make it any less fucked up.

There’s an element of hypocrisy or willful ignorance around this whole subject. We in the West have been tricked by good old euphemism for decades now. Khashoggi's murder is rightly held up as horrific, but the U.K. and US have been carrying out extra-judicial killings on an almost daily basis for the past 30 years. We just call them targeted drone strikes. Ah but he was a journalist not a foreign combatant, why is Edward Snowden living in exile? many of the same people I’ve seen suddenly take an interest in football these past few days on my social media are the same who tweeted they didn’t believe Dr David Kelly or Jeffrey Epstein killed themselves. So if they believe the U.K. and US routinely kill their own citizens to protect the rich and powerful and then continue on living their lives without protest, what are they aghast at Saudi for? Being a bit shit at it and getting caught? For what it’s worth I am conflicted about this whole affair and would really rather not be owned by a brutal regime. But I can’t help but see the typical Nationalistic Western Exceptionalism written across swathes of the recent commentary around the takeover.

He's got form for that has he not, Nobbie's and Pav's alleged accounts were just him or similar if I recall

Think there’s issues with him getting a work permit post Brexit, given how little football he's played in the last year

but does like to platform racists, bald nonce

Given the talk of a third assistant manager coming in, is there a chance Martinez has thrown his hat in the ring for a temporary appointment before the Euros? I know it’s clutching, but even Ashley wouldn’t think someone sacked from Luton was the answer surely?

What age is Kenedy now?

All these targets are massively unispiring. Picking from relegated teams is never a good plan unless they're standout players. Admittedly they're all better than what we have, but at the end of the day if they were better they might not have been relegated. Was a bit different when we went down as they players were clearly good, just massively mismanaged Robertson did alright for himself. I’m pretty sure we sold a few players when we last went down, who then went on to compete in a CL final a few years later. Anyone who says Sissoko was a stand out player for us is off their rocker too.
