I actually thought Donny looked like a really good footballer a couple of seasons back. Couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t given more opportunities at Man U but I wouldn’t go anywhere near him right now. Eddie is a master of bringing out the best in people and developing them but we shouldn’t be looking to go with work-in-progress / failed potential players unless there’s a strong case for it and with Donny there’s no case whatsoever

Trippier probably does get underrated by our fanbase because of the sheer level of responsibility he has in the side. Being the outlet for all set pieces and the main person to bring the ball forward from defence into midfield is an insane amount of work on top of all his defensive duties. I know I take him for granted at times

Can’t think of a single game against a low block where his style of play has been particularly effective. He still smashes his counterpart on the left to pieces but nothing tends to come of it due to how packed the other bodies are. He is doubled and tripled up on in those games. That should mean there is space for other players but either because of their numbers in defence or because of Maxi’s difficulty picking out a player with a clever pass it doesn’t come to much. I’m not criticising the lad per se as breaking down a low block is ridiculously difficult and it’s not down to one player to do it but I don’t think he’s the answer there. You need a dribbler that goes beyond his man and keeps going, not someone who goes beyond, slows down, cuts back, goes again, cuts back and then picks out a pass. Personally think Isak is our best player against a low block

If Burnley have returned, even if it’s not a full pre-season yet then that’s absolutely mental and will backfire. Nothing wrong with professionalism but players need time away from the game to recover mentally from the season more than anything else. It’s relentless, especially in the championship. People will just burn out

From what I’ve seen, I really like the look of Rayan Cherki. Excellent dribbler but only watched him two or three times

If they’re going for wholesale changes then you can be sure they’ll take a while to settle as a team. They’ve been a mess all season with their starting 11 so I don’t expect them to challenge for the title next season even though they should with the money they’ve spent but I think they’ll start slowly but be in the running for champions league come the end of the season. PSG are one of the most unbalanced sides imaginable given the money they’ve spent and players they could have brought in. They have a lot of players who love running with the ball and have great technique and their play style is essentially “let the lads play how they want to as they’re better than the other team”. I can’t be arsed to argue this point as Messi isn’t coming but there’s a major difference between a team like ours where everyone gives everything signing the most gifted player of all time who can’t run anymore or perform any defensive duties, compared with PSG having him. Sure, it could affect the way other players feel, seeing someone not give everything like they are but the idea that you can’t work out a system to include a player who’s still world class is where I’m calling you out

Anyone making out like Messi was rubbish or taking the piss at PSG is talking utter shit. Yes, he doesn’t run a ton but that’s because he can’t anymore. He was outstanding for them still. Can only imagine the people talking him down are people who have not been watching him play

As if people are taking it that seriously, no one believes we’re signing him but to make out like signing Messi would be a poor move is madness. He remains one of the top passers, finishers and best readers in the game even without the same dribbling ability he used to have. Howe would find a way of making it work
