So, ASM aside, what made Saudi bid so much for Fabinho, as an example? They put a lot of money into Livpoo and Chelsea for players who quite probably weren’t in demand at the price they paid. Was it just a naive splurge, or is it somehow in their interest to gain favour with some ‘big’ clubs who were quite desperate for funds? I’m not suggesting a specific answer by the way, but they are possibly seeking influence with clubs who may be involved in shaping the next big change in European football. Or not.

The delay isn’t coming from the league this time as far as I can see? 777 had asked for an extension on repaying the loans which were due yesterday until late May, which sounds a bit like they want to know which division the club will be in before completing.

Northumbria Police restrict them to 3.5k in the upper tier. Hell on

Imagine it. 2025/26 season, Newcastle are playing home games at Sunderland while their own ground is redeveloped. Newcastle are then drawn to play at home against Sunderland in the FA cup...

SBR added Bellamy and Robert to a side that had national captains of England, Wales, Eire, NI, Greece and Peru. Full of character and heart, just needed finesse. Dalglish signed almost all of them so however bad his time was, some credit for the players brought in is due. Some. -

Looks like Liverpool away a week before, then a clear midweek either side, so the straws I was clutching are all gone -

https://uk.soccerway.com/matches/2015/12/06/england/premier-league/newcastle-united-football-club/liverpool-fc/2043207/ Thats our our only win in his time, before he had put his own stamp on the team. We owe him for all the other results over the years, only chance would be the cup now...

Would we fancy a cup final vs Liverpool in Klopp’s last ever match with them? The build up and coverage would be unbearable, but imagine a win!

I would love hearing Paul Daniels do Phil Daniels part in Park Life! You’ll like this...not a lot!

https://www.insideworldsoccer.com/2011/02/nicklas-bendtner-scores-10-out-of-9-in.html ‘Recently, Arsenal use psychological tests to determine their players' mental abilities in relation to their footballing qualities and Bendtner is certainly not lacking in one area. Psychologist Jacques Crevoisier, interviewed by Swedish magazine Offside, said: "One of the categories is called 'self perceived competence,' i.e. how good the player himself thinks he is. On a scale up to 9, Bendtner got 10! "We have never seen that before. (Assistant manager) Pat Rice was sitting next to me and couldn't stop laughing.‘

And the fifth goal, Shola with an assist for Nolan’s hat trick goal - big Sho fucks off in the other direction to take the crowds applause while the whole team jump on Nolan. Brilliant. Mental. Glad this video was posted, needed something like it. Now fast forward to kick off ffs -

Part of me wasn’t looking forward to Trippier vs Clarke given current form. Livramento might be a better bet to stop their most dangerous player? -
Chris Holland looked a great prospect in his few first team appearances before some bastard through ammonia (?) in his face. Struck a ball very much like Gazza did, remember one or two 100mph looping crosses from the right. Poor kid could have been sending them in for Sir Les and Big Al a year or two later

Didn’t someone end up getting a tiny pair of scissors from a first aid bag, when the comedy bolt cutters proved useless? -
Andy Hinchcliffe played almost 400 games as a professional footballer, including gaining 7 caps for England. Don Goodman made nearer to 600 appearances domestically, though was not lucky enough to receive an international call up. These two must disprove something about what playing experience counts for when it comes to making a good football commentator, as they are both bloody awful at it.

For anyone who didn’t see it, they spent 15 seconds on whether it was possible to introduce technology to say if the ball went off the pitch, and not much else. They thought it was currently too difficult, btw. -

MOTD2 also avoiding any real analysis/judgement! They played the incident, agreed it was difficult, then declared it another bad day for VAR. Something is missing, Arteta failed to say exactly what the error was, and so have the pundits. It would be nice to know what they think we have ‘got away with’. -
I wasn’t keen when we were said be interested, in fact I was confused that first Chelsea then us were trying to buy him (for big ££) but that’s long gone, he’s fantastic. I just saw a player full of piss and wind in an aggressive counter attacking Everton side but he’s shown himself to be so much more. The U21 tournament was an eye opener and he carried on when he came back to us, as people have said above he’s currently one of our best players. He’s fast, skilful, clever and committed but his best attribute for me right now is his competitiveness. He plays like he hates the opposition, and that’s what winners do. I really hope we get his best years, he’s only 22 and will surely get better and better

Fairly sure that’s Karl Fletcher mate, ex Harchester Utd

From a Jonathon Wilson Q+A in the Guardian today With players like Trent Alexander-Arnold flowing between full-back and midfield, is there a shift towards position-less football? Are there any other tactical innovations unfolding, or that you see occurring in the near future? Kris, Massachusetts While positions are obviously important for basic defensive structure, I think that’s been a growing trend for a while. I remember talking to Slaven Bilić 20 years ago and him saying how he prefers to think in terms of roles rather than positions. Essentially formations, at the highest level, are rough guides rather the governing structures they were three or four decades ago. The biggest innovation now, I think, is data – although that’s a very difficult innovation to track from the outside.

He took a harder chance than the one Trippier laid on for him yesterday when playing for the u21s, from a similar sharp low cross from wide and he buried it through bodies. He’ll be fine, but Barnes may have grabbed the shirt for next week. Great to have a squad pushing each other
