Has Nketiah been linked much? Not sure I’d be happy if Wilson was done for the season and he was the only forward signed. But he must be available for a knock down price with only 6 months left on his deal? Palace and Brighton after him, I think. I reckon he’d fit in well with the system and be effective with a consistent run of games in the side.

I might be wrong. But apparently he was on a pretty small contract compared to a lot of players. Not just the star names like VVD and Salah. So wanted considerably more and Liverpool weren’t prepared to pay, due to his age. Most fans seemed to want him to stay. I may have that wrong, mind. Just from conversations with Liverpool supporting mates in the pub.

I’m the other way. Had a lot of respect for Gerrard towards the end of his career, he has taken to management really well and I have warmed to Liverpool over the years. Brummie seems a top lad, of course. But I have been to Villa park about 5-6 times, I reckon. Always been pretty hostile and I still to this day don’t understand it. The way they went on when we got relegated. Etched in my mind forever.

Do you not think that was a bit of a carry over from the previous regime and perhaps Jones in his ear? How many games has he actually been available for over Clark, as well? He got injured not long after impressing versus Norwich, didn't he? I was thinking and hoping after doing well against Norwich after Clark's brainless red. That he was going to get more of a look in. But seems like Lascelles starts as he's captain and Howe likes Schar and his ability on the ball. Hopefully we stop up and next season we won't be worrying about which average/crap centre back we should be starting!

Not really seen enough of him other than clips. But as someone else alluded to, his kind of clumsy style when slide tackling and lack of pace might be an issue going forward under Howe, no? We've gone from basically camping on the edge of our box all game, to already pushing higher up the pitch under Howe. But I am guessing he'd want us even further up and be able to close the gap between the defence and midfield. Which under Bruce, was absolutely massive and has been a few times of late, as well. Although in fairness, that has usually been on the counter when we have been caught in possession. Hard for the players when they haven't been coached to attack for 2 and a bit years and we're chucking men forward, desperate for some points. He seems like a great potential signing and better than what we have. His height and being a left footer makes it more exciting.

Third time lucky after Murphy and Lewis? I don’t particularly want Cantwell and it isn’t what we need with this current system, IMO. There are plenty of other areas that need addressing and I’d say a lightweight luxury player is low down on the list right now.

I’d prefer us to sign players for their correct positions. Yes. Judging by an earlier post. You seem to think players are just plug and play and can slot in anywhere at the highest level. I don’t think that is the case for a lot of players. So yeah, I guess we fundamentally disagree there. Plus as you have alluded to above. I don’t think we’d even realistically be in for Lamptey, anyway.

Still not his preferred position though, is it? Played there a bit for Spurs and England, off the top of my head. How much is Lamptey going to cost? We should sign him. Say ‘sorry Kieran lad. We know we sold you the dream. But we’re shifting you to left back. Hope that’s alright.’

I would be complaining if we spent a huge chunk of our transfer budget on a right back. When we have just bought a right back and there are so many other areas that need improving first. Not sure I’ve ever been referred to as a pedantic positional numpty. But I don’t like the idea of signing someone for big money, to play them out of position or convert them into playing a totally different role. So I suppose I must be a numpty. Awesome player, mind.
