How long does a relegation clause last/how does it work? If he doesn't sign a new contract, assuming he got what guarantees he was after when initially signing, and someone come along for him in say November and we want him to stay can he go "but a-ha! relegation clause!" Not saying that's how he'd go but is it important we get rid of the clause?

That's true when betting trends are probably down to insider info (eg transfers, new managers) but not in the case of matches. Those odds are determined by who the bookie thinks is going to win. But that's just the starting odds, isn't it? Then trends change the odds so the bookies have less chance of losing out. Correct. They're initially set by an algorithm then a different one adjusts to the trend to minimise loss. Will probably be some sort of complex least squares regression model.
