May just be me but does anyone else think he's become a bit too big? He's put on a lot of mass since his debut against Everton. He doesn't need more weight to boss midfields and as it stands he's a worse player now than he was in 2010. I'm not sure whether this ties into these pirouettes and the way he nearly always loses out on them now, as opposed to how he used to be in complete control. Or I could just be reading too much into it.

To me he seems nervous all the time about making a mistake and is too tentative. Give him a bit of time.

Really excited at seeing Santon and Ben Arfa on the same side of the pitch. Could be some width finally. Jonas and Fergie should link up well in theory too. -
The sheer thought of that, man! The most I've laughed for years.

QPR are still fielding Clint Hill, Shaun Wright Phillips and Bobby Zamora. It's laughable really. I hope this will be the end of them.

I was kind of looking forward to it actually. Both teams have improved a lot since last year, both were terribly negative and poor on the eye. Got some better and more interesting players now.

Yeah that wasn't great, hopefully the content will get a bit more meaty with the rest of the series when stuff is actually going on. That snippet for the next episode with Rodgers going through the pre-game tactical analysis with the players is the kind of thing I want to see and interests me about this kind of series.

He looked like he did back in December, very hungry and fit. Hopefully him being dropped has been the kickstart.

That was incredible, wasn't it? -
Yeah I think they'll go down. They do try to play some decent football and they're nice and positive but I don't think they will cut it.

Agreed. If we want to start dominating games more like the top national sides do, we need a player like Carrick whose natural game is to drop off and pick up the ball. He's a very good footballer- really glad Gerrard's out so he'll get a chance to come in and hopefully stay.

I really like Benayoun, class player IMO.

I wonder what our plan for Anita is. I thought considering the £6m paid he'd be a guaranteed starter and would see a long term move to 4-3-3, but I'm not so sure now. And Unbelievable: It looked a 4-4-2 to me tbh. Especially in the first half, it was a fairly flat midfield 4 set out to contain. Ben Arfa roamed as he naturally does, but he always came back to the right side, he took it upon himself to dictate the game for us. In the second half we played with more freedom, Chelsea were seemingly happy to let us have it.

You talk about letting Lovenkrands and Best go but fail to mention Guthrie leaving the club but you are baffled by the signing of Anita?? Surely you weren't expecting the team to go through the whole season with just Cabaye and Tiote in central midfield?? I'm just a bit puzzled about the clubs intentions for Anita. Pardew favours a 442 and in Cabaye/Tiote we have first choice solid pairing. This club doesn't spend £5-6million on squad players and the logic suggests to me that Anita was brought in to replace one of the current midfield two. Me too. Originally I thought because of the £6m we paid for Anita, we had plans to move long term to a 4-2-3-1 system and Anita would be Jonas' successor alongside Tiote. The way Pardew speaks about 4-4-2 and Ba playing 90% centrally really makes me wonder our intentions though. I don't see how we can afford to pay £6m for a player who is not guaranteed to start. That's why I actually thought we might be bringing Anita in as a full back, but it seems that is not the case.

I hate Big Sam. Set out to contain, playing Nolan wide right so he can ping diagonals to him (where he'll win the aerial duel against the full back) and basically basing their attacking game off set pieces, long throws and lucky scrambles. I seem to remember a similar tactic with Alan Smith on the wing.
