A lot of U.S. fans were frustrated with his performance during the World Cup (a lot of U.S. fans are also morons). Definitely susceptible to a heavy touch and can get caught out from time to time. Seems to be having a very good season with Fulham though (next to Tim Ream, who has somehow aged like a fine wine). Also just a good egg who would fit in really well with Eddie’s project.

I’ll stop kviching about our lack of signings if we pull that out the bag.

Gonna be laughs if Leeds go down and Marsch is able to keep Southampton up. Seems unlikely, mind.

It’s his second PL job…

Motion to rename the thread “Mike Ashley (butthead)”

That thread is spot on imo. Would love a prominent manager in the twilight of his club career (Van Gaal, Bielsa) but looking for a fresh challenge. Pep and Carlo likely aren’t gettable at this point, but we’d be laughing if we convinced either.

desperately sad, all of this.

Well they did single-handedly fund Burnley’s PL survival last season.

Was wondering why that name sounded familiar. Only retired from playing a few years ago, ending with a stint in NYC.

Definitely a big jump from Austrian Bundesliga to PL (for managers too, clearly )

While it’s obviously not just a coincidence that three American players ended up at Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United, Adams and McKennie would also make the starting XI for plenty of PL clubs. Aaronson is probably best as an “off-the-bench” option in this league at this point in his career, but he’s a talented player too.

Marsch deserves a lot of credit for taking over from Bielsa last season and keeping them up. While results don’t always tell the whole truth (11th in goals scored, 6 teams with a worse GD), fact is they’re 17th and winless since November. Results take priority over style in the PL for relegation battlers. Mystifying that he/they spent all that money (on some good players!) but didn’t see fit to replace the likes of Struijk, Cooper, and Ayling, none of whom should be starting in the PL. I do think he’s a smart guy and a good manager. With the system he wants to install, he’d benefit from an opportunity to build something from the ground up, without the threat of relegation (Leeds) or pressure to compete for Europe and silverware (Leipzig). A reclamation project in a less demanding league.
