Completely different players. In his best form, Carroll is one of the most physically-demanding forwards in the league. And quite possibly the best through the air. Ba is much better with his feet and a more natural goalscorer. He's been the unquestionably better player over the past two seasons. But he can't provide the kind of hold-up play and physicality that Carroll can. I'm growing more and more intrigued by the prospect of re-signing Carroll, especially if there's no hope that Pardew will be sacked. If he insists on running his crap system, we might as well get him some players that can play it. Unfortunately, that negates the ability of players like Cabaye, Anita, Sissoko, Marveaux, Gouffran, who are all better fits in a fluid 4-3-3/4-5-1 hybrid. I'd imagine the front 6 would look something like this if we got Carroll (assuming full health): Carroll Cisse Gouffran Ben Arfa Cabaye Sissoko Though Gouffran is not a true winger and Ben Arfa would continue to collapse-in from the right, leaving a ton of room down the flank. And Cabaye isn't best as a box-to-box central midfielder that he'd need to be in a 4-4-2.

Though one instance a pattern does not make tbh.

Okay I'll bite. Our problem with set pieces is not that Cisse flops about in the box, it's that we consistently aim our shots at a single player. Adding Carroll wouldn't help that, they'd just put 3 guys on him knowing we're aiming for his massive forehead. And Cisse is hardly the problem on our set-piece defending as well. The problem is that our players get a touch on the ball and immediately boot it back to the opposition, where they can continue to press on offense.

Tbf Pardew's idiocy doesn't tend to effect the defenders performances as much as it does the midfielders and the forwards for obvious reasons. It is a bit worrying that we've conceded the 2nd most goals this season in the league. Though I attribute that to: 1) Extended periods of Mike Williamson at CB and a banged up Tim Krul. 2) No continuity on the backline this season, as Simpson, Debuchy, Colo, Saylor, Perch, Williamson, Santon, MYM, Haidara and Jonas have all made appearances there. A solid and hopefully healthy (knock on wood) back 4 of Debuchy, Saylor, MYM, Santon/Haidara plus Krul should produce better results next season. 3) 'Fortress Newcastle' being the worst fucking defensive scheme in Toon history. I'll chuck this in, when taking a lead we sit back deep and hope to hang on. This with a terrible defensive record. Managers a chump. Yeah that's what I've coined "Fortress Newcastle." Throwing all 10 men in our half, bunkering in and allowing the opposition 75% possession after we've gone ahead. Works 6% of the time, every time.

Still getting acclimated to the pace and quality of the PL. Not worried about his skill in the slightest, he'll be top-notch for us.

Put him in any PL team that plays half-decent passing football and he'd look very good tbh.

Even Oscar, the "fragile little Brazilian" that he is, is on 55 games or so this season.
