The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Champions League

4 draws and a win and it doesn't matter whatever else happens. I'd take one of the draws on Sunday now. -
I'd imagine the "keep politics out of football" lads will insist on it.

I can definitely relate to this. Was massively sceptical about it but it's something I definitely appreciate now. So if this grumpy middle aged sod can change his mind on something then others definitely can.

Been mulling over on something said a few weeks ago in this thread. Might have been @Rich but not sure so apologies if not, but it was about needing a change in mentality away from the Ashley era and it kind of resonated with me. Previously I've been of the opinion that standing could/should be introduced in a small area then increased bit by bit but I'm not sure now. See how it goes next year and if it's a success and/or popular just go all in and say the whole Gallowgate is changing to standing next summer. It will piss a lot of people off, but I do think there's a lot of other people that will get on board, that just need the one moment where it clicks that things are different now. That zombie club of 10+ years is no more now, that time where all there was to look forward to at the match was the social side of things is all in the past. Getting to 40 points then sacking it off is gone now. There is ambition there to support And as such, the team will need your support because when you're challenging for CL spots or cups then EVERY game is important, there will be new exciting signings that will need to be welcomed and this is the part the fans are to play in the brave new world. I mean being at the Man Utd and Spurs game should have started flicking this switch in people's minds.

Yes, these are my thoughts as well. Never know- Bank Holiday tomorrow might see a few more dafties on the lunchtime jaegerbombs again like they were last week for Spurs.

Sure in one of his Benfica videos he ordered a 50 euro cocktail on room service. Took a couple of sips and said he'd prefer a Coors

There's more than a whiff of "Partridge" to him like

I'm just looking at it from the point of view that 9% of something (especially a Premier League something if you do go up) is better than 90% of nothing. From the outside it looked like Donald didn't have a clue what he was doing, was running the club into the ground until KLD steadied the ship and he should thank his lucky stars that he's getting out with anything. Obviously I'm not as familiar with the goings on at sunderland as you are so if I've got that wrong then fair enough.
-
Or we would be none the wiser as it wouldn't be shown and we would just crack on. I know it's the right decision, but just intuitively it seems wrong as the offside had fuck all to do with the build up and final strike which was a beauty.

Was it Tarkowski who booted Longstaff in the head at Burnley and VAR said no pen??
-
The late tackle on a player whose got his shot away is one of those weird conventions in football. It'll take someone* getting a nasty injury and they will look at it imo. It's also when you're particularly vulnerable as the striker. I'm guessing that they take a lenient view because heroic last ditch tacklesand blocks look spectacular as fuck and maybe they don't want to discourage them?? * I mean someone actually good obviously. I was on the receiving end of this once, sprained my ankle ligaments and needed crutches for a couple weeks. Alas school lunchtime football was never going to change the world.

I actually thought by his own standards Mariner wasn't too bad last night, although I always brace myself for daylight robbery when we get him. He let a lot of stuff go including when defenders were trying to buy free kicks by hoying themselves down on the ball at the slightest of touches, but I don't mind that tbh. Thought he was maybe a bit lenient with the yellows but I'd rather have that than the other version of Mariner who hoys cards around like a horny incel on valentines and completely ruins the game that. Two poor VAR calls (in my book) against us but can't really blame him for that.
-
I think it was cleared away by the defender but Burn challenged for it so definitely interfering with play. My problem with VAR is who flagged that up (it wasn't the lino) and do they scrutinise every goal as much as that. For example, if that's Liverpool or Man Utd does it get called back or just ignored, given that literally nobody else noticed it or suspected anything was amiss, no defenders appealled for it, nothing. And that's before we get onto "clear and obvious" ffs. Not saying it is being abused but it's definitely open to it.
-
Or arguably KLD has pulled Donald out of the shit by steadying the ship and making sure he'll at least get something back on his investment?? Looking in from the outside obviously so I might be wrong. But it seems you're now being run something close to properly which clearly wasn't the case when pinky and perky were in charge and left to their own devices.

Fucking he'll. Pen to them that surely?

All this stop start is fucking ourselves over as well. We can't get into any rhythm and that's not going to help

That's a fucking penalty that. Scouse commentator "Newcastle wasting time here."

I wouldn't have left Burn out for this one personally. Oh well, in Eddie we trust I suppose. -

I feel like a line has been crossed here mind. Lobbong coins, smokebombs, fireworks outside team hotels, nonces tie-cabling themselves to the goal are all expected in a relegation scrap at Goodison. But that's just fucking rude. -

The Everton fans I know are mainly sound but as a fanbase they can get a bit odd if things don't go their way. There's definitely more of an "edgy" atmosphere in the pubs when we play Everton away compared to Liverpool. -

Fair question. I know it's not what you're getting at, but for me it's a no-brainer until he's proven on merit that he's the best available option for the team. Can't see how Joelinton or Murphy get dropped after the weekend, and if Murphy did get dropped or rested then Almiron would be the better option for me. Once he's an invaluable member of the team then it's a conversation to have, but now it would seem like weakening the starting xi just to poke the bear. -
I'm guessing, from his point of view, he sees thousands of people cheering, waving flags and some (although not many for Otzi) singing along and thinks all is good. Of course, the relevant context is that after a 6-1 win against Spurs or battering Man Utd his job is redundant, he could play sunderland songs accompanied with photos of Mike Ashley and Dennis Wise on the big screen and he would still see a positive atmosphere in the stadium. There was an article about behind the scenes staff at SJP last year and he featured in that and I remember some positive quotes (possibly from Staveley) praising him because he reacts to the crowd when selecting his songs which is important for a DJ. Hence why Hey Jude is such an "inspired" choice of pre-match music despite lots of us thinking it's wank, generic and far too scouse. He has relatively recently started picking a post-match tune of relevance e.g for one of the goalscorers (it was "Give it up" after the Wolves game where Miggy scored the winner.) As a gimmick I think this is a bit wank, but will I join in anyway? Aye probably, because basically I like having a sing at the match. Im doing so am I encouraging the nonsense? Possibly, it's Catch 22. I'm hoping that whoever gets to liaise with the club about it, be it the Trust or Flags or whoever, will pass on some constructive criticisms because rocking up and saying "he's shite get him sacked" like a two-year-old won't get anyone anywhere. But if someone the owners trust can bend their ear and explain that he's a bit much and it's really not necessary to get an atmosphere going then they might get some joy. The volume is ridiculous and a matter of urgency and Doris fucking Day in particular needs to never ever ever be played again at the stadium because nobody needs to be told to celebrate getting to a major final. Apart from that, and in fairness to him, it isn't the DJ that decided to adopt DJ bastard Otzi as a Callum Wilson chant it was our bloody fans so we're partially responsible for that one. Tldr; We either need a new song for Isak ASAP or we're going to be hearing a lot of ABBA over the next year or two but hopefully not so loud it bursts the fucking eardrums.
