We're talking about a generation of players now (up to about 22/23?) who will have only ever seen us as what we are under Ashley. Which is nothing impressive. One good season pretty much, twice relegated, involved in relegation battles more times on top of that, never competed for a trophy. Never even close. It's not much of an attraction.

HBA was the kind of player that makes you a fan of football. Nobody falls in love with the game because of an organized defence or a hard-working midfielder. Of course all these things are important to success but it's not what makes you excited and inspired as a kid. Mazy runs and great goals do that (among other things of course), and that's what HBA gave us. Not every game, but enough to make him the cult hero he's become to many of us
