There's no justifying not bringing Burn off as soon as he got his yellow. Not doing so after the should have been penalty was just criminal. That being said he's allowed a dodgy patch. Woltemade desperately needs Wissa up there with him. Trippier can do something of a job but is a clear downgrade on Tino. Hall/Ramsdale need to be starting from now on. Joelinton needs some time out of the team. Bruno/Tonali need to be given rest time. If anyone deserves a chance to put this right Howe does. He's the right man for the job and you stick with the right man through thick and thin.

Not how we'd want it to happen but maybe we get Ramsdale here.

Probably not the worst outcome for us as well. We need him to build up some match fitness and the international games will be much less intensive than PL games.

I think it's one thing to publicly question physicality and energy and another to question lack of technical ability. The former can be put down to bad day, we were off it, etc. The latter is a bit closer to saying your players aren't good enough. I'm sure Howe could word it diplomatically but I can see why he wouldn't want to go there.

The problem with Gordon is I think technically he has a ceiling. A few of us in 23/24 were calling his form a purple patch and not sustainable. There were flashes of great skill in there but it was mostly pace and graft. His level is probably mid table/outside challenge for Europe. Which feels like where we are at the moment. I don't think he gets near the team of a title challenger, and is probably backup for a top 4 mainstay. Hard not to escape the fact that something isn't right with his attitude as well.

This one for me is filed under "give it time, nervous, should at least be able to sell for what we paid if needed". Hard to escape the feeling we're trying to put a square peg into a round hole here. Of all our aimless crosses into the box yesterday though Elanga is the one who found Osula who should have done better with the chance.

I think there's definitely an effort to manage our workload in games borne from the injury crisis we suffered last time out in the CL. On paper it's a good idea but in reality it's not really working and that's probably mainly down to the quality of our players. Don't get me wrong - we have a good team. But our team running at 60% isn't going to win games in the PL. I think the idea is sound but maybe the pendulum has swung slightly too far. But also it's something we might see pay dividends over the Christmas period when all teams have to deal with fixture congestion. Dan Burn at left back really needs to stop.
