That was a pearler mind. Had our striker been scoring, he would have said we need goals from all over the park. He hedged that by saying something about the midfielders for the time the strikers do start scoring

If everyone (or most everyone) makes progression then maybe just a decent investment on a CAM and ST plus likely LB. Not too bad and then sell fodder for depth pieces and maybe actually be able to spend on those two attacking positions even in the confines of Ashley's frugal nature. Yeah that is too rosy I know.

Had Weigl among others playing there and I believe they even were looking at him as a CB. As good as Tuchel was cultivating Pulisic and others (Dembele was cant miss), Merino looks like he could be the biggest miss. Although Julian Weigl is the real deal and German so its not shocking at all.

And Villa. Now that is just getting greedy

For his first match back, did well. 45 touches, 15/20 passes, 3 crosses, 4 clearances, 3 tackles, 3 recoveries, 1 int., 5 duels won. Thought he showed a little bit of that match fitness in the final 10 minutes but it all worked it out just fine. Thought he did fine, until those little cracks at the end and went against Moting, Jese, and Sobhi at different points so he definitely had the works thrown at him. Good sign going forward IMO and a little competition there at RB and CB (Lejeune trying to break thru at some point) is only gonna help things across the back. On ward and Up ward!!

Yeah if I would rated after 80' I would have said 7 maybe higher since Im feeling good but I think a little match fitness issues shown there at the end with dropping off Sobhi and that pass he left short back to Ritchie, which is usually a tell tale sign of fitness issues. Otherwise I agree, he was very good.

So I think we all thought we would be on 9 points after 5 games especially after the first 2 matches. Great effort by everybody, well deserved and realistically shouldnt have been that close.

Other than the finishing, that half, is a perfect tape to show the players if they are ever low on confidence. Everyone working hard, Mbemba and Merino bossing things, and everyone really. Thus far it looks like Yedlin stepped right back in...was a little worried that he would need some time to get up to speed but so far so good. Really wish we grabbed the 2nd though. Joselu has to convert at least one of those two chances.

Hopefully Yedlin can stretch Pieters and allow Ritchie to cause issues in that space between Pieters and the LCB (havent seen Stoke's lineup). Like the lineup. Come out aggressive and in their face.
