Fraser essentially did to Bournemouth what Owen did to us. Struggling in a relegation fight and refusing to play out of pure self interest.

Footballers are often a superstitious bunch.

Not sure in the wisdom of a fella who's had two acl's and only scored 7 goals whilst being relegated choosing number 13 .

Whenever there's any speculation of us actually bidding against other clubs for a player I just get the Keegan talk in flashing through my mind. Where Keegan goes to llambias and Jimenez and says if we bid £1.25 million for Hyypia we get him. Then Hyypia calls Keegan saying "what's going on they've offered £500'000".

Thought someone on here said it was a done deal that he was going to Man Utd I think he changed agents to the same as Solskjaeer and Manchester United made overtures in the January window, so a lot of the rumours are on the back of that .

As others have said squad player who can do a job, don't see him getting in above Shelvey and Hayden tho. Could well indicate the bye bye for Matty Longstaff mind.

At the risk of sounding like Mike Bassett 4-4-2 will come back strong in the next 2-3 years. We've already seen very attacking full backs become intrinsic to how the top teams play and the width they provide is such a key area. Sooner or later a top manager will say to themselves rather than having lots of central players I can overload wide areas with winger and full back and have strikers work the channels more as well. As pressing is more and more popular the 4-4-2's shape and also it's compactness from a defensive point of view is also going to become key. We've already seen that in La Liga with the press and physicality of Eibar and Getafe and it's going to creep back here more and more. I'd be very surprised if the likes of Ancelotti (who's always loved the 4-4-2) doesn't start having some success with that at Everton. Though in the current era I'd say it'll tend to be more of a diamond midfield than the traditional style. A last point on this, in an economic environment affected by the rona a 4-4-2 could be perceived as a cheaper model tactically. You don't need the more specialized roles of some of the other formations. You can have very different strikers, wingers or central midfielders on the wings, and midfield doesn't have to have a holding player for example. Or, if you're Tony Pulis or How's The Bacon Bruce you can have four centre halves across your back four. Ramble over.

Matty Longstaff (now playing for Toronto FC)
Keggy_Keagal replied to toontownman's topic in Football
Unfortunately at Newcastle United we've a long tradition of letting decent young players go. Put yourself in Longstaff's shoes. His manager is Steve Bruce who's decided a centre half in Schar and a poor looking Bentaleb (who incidentally if we're on about being committed to the cause, how does that work for loan players ?) is keeping him out the team. I can't blame anyone wanting to leave this mess at the moment and every message he's been getting from the club and from his manager is essentially that we don't rate you as much as we rate several other players. -

That hair dye's done wonders for Matty like. -
He's repeatedly stated he believes his source, that he thought the takeover was happening months ago, and alluded to that shite "cans" craic constantly. He fell for it completely. He was told the takeover was happening months ago , there was a deal agreed with Ashley, this always appeared to be the most difficult issue regarding any potential takeover. Nobody anticipated the supposed various problems with the owners and directors test, particularly when considering who has been the given green light previously and the length of time that would take. Oh and a global pandemic. Bad George !! How can he not have seen that ? !!

Caulkin's been exemplary. There are times when people seem to confuse what he's saying he's been told with his own opinion. Interestingly (and apologies if this has been covered elsewhere on the thread) he's said on The Athletic's pod that when the exclusivity ran out Ashley DID ask for money and the consortium agreed to it.

Don't know if this has been posted before or not but a (I think Swedish) Newcastle fan has made the following what I would call an EP about the Newcastle united squad . Utterly baffled.

Christopher Johnston (on twitter) has dismissed this ages ago. Catch up man. That's Stifler, man. Still true. My cousin put a picture of the plane up as well as her child saw it and it’s been a while since they have seen a plane coming into Newcastle. I’ve made a thread on Twitter where I have explained that theirs not going to be a Saudi entourage coming into Newcastle to complete the deal or announce the takeover. Theirs no point in looking at private jets. Staveley and Jamie Reuben are unlikely to be using private jets to fly into Newcastle, and likely won’t come into Newcastle until after the takeover has been completed. Everything is going to be done by lawyers in London. I saw the plane over Tynemouth as it came in to land 4 x engines on the bird, which is unusual around these parts So are we saying Danny La Rue is leading a Kuwaiti consortium ?

Their best album. It's brilliant. Great album. Out Of Time for me though. Omminous Life's Rich Pageant on balance. I'm arguing with myself now because Green is amazing too Reckoning Today we need Automatic For The People Not a Reveal ? If so we need someone to Accelerate it I quite agree, nobody wants to Collapse Into Now
