Lets not judge our potential new number 9's character based on some tweets by a load of grifters. I understand the frustration with the current narrative though.

Two stands were closed tbf and only about 4 turnstiles open. Huge lay-offs on stewarding staff to help pay Xhaka's wages.

Man Utd to pull the classy Liverpool approach to transfers: Leipzig, we are here to make an offer, we are feeling very optimistic about it. The offer is £30m plus Rasmus Hojlund on a season long loan.

We need two CM's really. Willock has to be counted out of a genuine squad depth at this point. It's higher priority than CB imo, where we already have better quality cover for fewer, less taxing positions. I'm always stunned when reading people's transfer wish lists which don't include a single CM. It's absolutely critical.

The fact Romano hasn't posted about it means it's probably happening. We'll hear from him if Man Utd match the offer.

I'd also add that there's still question marks over Slot as a manager in a more competitive title race; as I wouldn't say it was Liverpool's excellence that made last season so uncompetitive, but more so Arsenal and Manchester City failing to make it a contest. He should be better a year on, but I would wager that he will face much tougher competition this upcoming season and won't able to afford his team tapering off as they did last time out. Frimpong and Kerkez aren't obvious improvements for me, Wirtz has looked good in preseason and should be fine, I'd expect him to have a bit of an impact initially at least. However I look at the PSG team, and for me they're stronger all over the pitch and have far better balance and a manager who has landed on something magic that brought a spirit to PSG's play which was irrepressible. Liverpool in comparison limped over the line. A lot to prove for me yet, I don't believe they're the inevitable superpower some seem to be suggesting.

Perhaps you're right, and indeed I see the merit in not caving to Liverpool's tactics and I also acknowledge the 'optics' of us simply refusing to sell under these conditions and holding firm would be good and send a strong message. I get it all, I'm just fed up with the whole thing and want him gone. Newcastle will be fine in the long run if he stays, continues to act a cunt and moves on in 12 months, and we will be fine in the long run if he leaves now. It's not going to define the whole trajectory of the club, so I'd rather the saga was done.

I'm beginning to think what we gain in pride and appearances by keeping him doesn't outweigh the dark cloud that will loom over the club as a result of his unresolved situation and his general presence around the place. I can't see a reality where he plays for us again, even if he remains under contract. I would much rather we have a striker in the team at Villa Park in two weeks and clarity and closure on this whole situation so we can move forward. At the moment we have none of those things and are stuck in a state of stasis and inertia. Ideally we would go out and sign two strikers anyway with the knowledge that money for Isak is coming either now or over the next 12 months, but it seems unlikely as the word is that we're lining up a replacement only in the event of him leaving. The longer he is here, the more distracting and potentially poisonous it will become. We've been bullied by the bigger club in Liverpool which has been facilitated in large part by Isak and his representatives. Take the ego hit and move on so we can start looking after our prime concern which is Newcastle United and putting together a competitive squad.

Watkins at the right price would be the best possible replacement imo. We'd of course have to buy again in a year or so, but the money would be there. Tired of hearing of the whole thing tbh, if you could offer a scenario where Isak goes for £150m, and we bring in Watkins, Wissa and Paqueta I'd take it.
-
Just don't see where he fits with Elanga and Murphy filling out the places on our right side. I can't see us changing formation to facilitate a number 10, nor did I ever see Dibling play there last season. We need to sign a proper midfielder such as Paqueta who has the attributes to both fill one of our midfield 3 roles seamlessly and also potentially offer that tactical flexibility as a bonus. Dibling isn't that imo.

Kieran Trippier: to join Wolves on a free (various)
Infinitely Content replied to Yorkie's topic in Football
Wish he was a few years younger. There's an argument to be made that on his day he's still our best player. For me he's the one who technically and football intelligence-wise often looks a cut above the rest. -
Might be a canny idea under those conditions of having to sit indoors to order a book you've had your eye on or something, at least if that becomes engaging or gripping enough it may have some sway over being absorbed into the updates which are in fact non-updates for the most part and just pollute our mental space.

That new CM then... Not that this changes much like, pretty much factored out Willock when considering our midfield depth, he's either anonymous or injured. Hopefully this provides the club some urgency to get some proper support for Tonali, Bruno and Joelinton. We're going to need it. Priority signing for us.
