  1. Gonna have to start calling us Memecastle United soon, commentator was just saying "...approaching 10 games without a win for Newcastle, I don't know where they go next", second commentator interjects "Jeff Hendrick is getting warmed up." FFS
  2. He really wasn’t. Such an odd exchange in 2021 in a match day thread but I like it.
  3. Howay lads, at least pretend to give a fuck I know it must be grim playing for us but some of them are just standing about there man.
  4. With Dubravka back, Darlow has little room for error imo. Need to watch his kicking, could have put us in bother twice that half.
  5. "He's got to the half an hour mark" says the commentator. Who are we like, Yeading? Where their keeper got some kind of bonus every 5 minutes he went without conceding iirc.
  6. One of the comments "The new era is here, good luck to Bruce in his first game in charge"
  7. So... Almiron---Shelvey---Hayden---Joelinton -------------Wilson---Carroll--------------
  8. Based on Bruce's recent comments about "his way" and assuming we're playing 442 tonight, I feel like he's implying that 5 at the back was Rafa's way and wasn't working, despite the fact he's opted to play that system (or an abomination of that system more accurately) most of his time here. He has no excuses at all, he's become so frustrating the way he goes on.
  9. This. Arsenal have been terrible. Perfect opportunity to turn their season around tonight though. Not sure about that, they’ve won four out of the last five. Beating Chelsea was arguably a turning point already. Arteta has done well against the top 6 sides generally (Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea). It's games against sides like Newcastle and Brighton where they fall short. They have far from turned the corner yet. I mean, I sort of agree, but you could maybe have chosen better illustrations because of course Newcastle and Brighton are two of the teams they just beat . You're quite right, I thought they drew 0-0 with Brighton as they did us (over 90) and they looked dreadful. Point still stands I reckon though, they certainly seem to struggle to break weaker teams down, more so than when Emery was in charge.
  10. If Arsenal start a front four of Lacazette, Aubameyang, Smith-Rowe and Saka, as well as Tierney playing at left back then we will get destroyed. They look very very good when those 5 are on the pitch at the same time. Thomas Partey is also back and adds a lot of energy and dynamism to their midfield. If all those feature it could be very bad. You're being overly kind to Arsenal here. Those names look great but the football they play isn't. They play the same sort of (anti) football as us most of the time. If a team opens up against them they can look better and more dangerous. If teams sit back like we do they haven't got a clue what to do.

  12. Can see the excitement for this one is tangible. Would definitely take a heavy loss here, I just don't think Arsenal are capable of dealing one out.
  13. It's quite sad to see the glory of Messi kind of tinged or tainted lately with the goings on at Barca over the last 6 months or so. I'm sure it's only temporary mind and won't be a stain on the career of the greatest footballer to ever live.
  14. I’ve probably posted before but he used to train the keepers at Gateshead occasionally when my mate was on the books, speaks extremely highly of him as a coach and a bloke. Class I remember going on a goalkeeping course with Pavel Srnicek circa 2005ish and hoping Simon Smith would be there as I'd spent the previous years studying his lessons on the above mentioned VHS. Think he'd left the club by that point though, closely followed by Pav not long after the course finished. He invited me to train with him in Czech Republic afterwards but my parents said no. Fuckers I could have had my two dreams come true - be a pro keeper, live in a former Soviet country
  15. Both absolutely unreal. Appreciate the elegance of De Bruyne's game, but equally appreciate the Cantona-ness of Fernandes. He's walked into the biggest club in the world like it's nothing and dragged them up single-handedly to compete for the Premier League. I do think if one has the edge though, it would be De Bruyne (for that volley against us in the 2-2, ludicrous).
  16. Simon Smith actually had a goalkeeper coaching VHS out back in the Given days. So clearly he's passionate about coaching and loves the process enough to make a instructional film about it. That alone places him lightyears away from the Steves. Wonder if I still have that VHS lying around, probably worth some money.
  17. I'm just thinking with there being so much attention on Darlow recently he will deservedly attract some interest in the Premier League. If so we should sell to the first club who puts up £10m or more. We've seen a lot of them both in that number 1 shirt now, for me we would sooner regret losing Dubravka. The impact he had coming into the club and ever since can't be underestimated. He was bought because the others weren't good enough at the time and he's actually dragged Darlow up to his level imo by setting the standard.
  18. Aye nice save, think we should sell Darlow and bring him back to shadow Dubravka. Woodman looks good enough these days and has the experience now. Look forward to seeing him pick up 30 MOTM displays in a row despite conceding 3 per game.
