Miguel Almirón (now playing for Atlanta United)
Infinitely Content replied to Deuce's topic in Football
I noticed this too, several times in the first half Almiron made a good run into space in the left channel and the pass was on, and Ritchie just completely ignored him. Was very strange. Maybe he's jealous of all the love the new boy is getting. Or he hates South Americans. Or maybe he was trying to take advantage of the extra space having someone with movement/a brain in front of him was affording him? Can't remember Ritchie having many/any opportunities to carry the ball towards the box for a long time. He might start pinging some long rangers, which seems to have all but disappeared from his game since he moved up here. Hopefully is the case... just came across as strange to me but maybe I was just over eager to see Almiron on the ball. There’s just something kind of ludicrous about ignoring a good option when there’s nothing on for you, then screaming at him for not passing later when he had every right to shoot. Can’t fault the passion of Ritchie, atleast radge bastard. -

Interesting that the Hoffenheim manager is going to Leipzig at the end of the season too, with talks of him taking his striker with him.

Sure, but it's still strange for him to ignore the clear option of Almiron multiple times in a row on his debut; it's not like cutting inside presented a great opportunity to cross as he wasn't even in and around the box - he cut inside and played a short pass when Almiron had been making good, potentially dangerous runs on the wing. Anyway, it's hopefully something out of nothing, but no doubt it came across as strange when watching live. -

Maybe he's jealous of all the love the new boy is getting. Or he hates South Americans. Could have been angry that Almiron didn't pass to him when Ritchie went on the overlap and Almiron shot instead in the first half Nah, that happened after. At that point in the game, Ritchie had ignored the option of Almiron in space numerous times, which is why it was so ludicrous and annoying for Ritchie to turn and scream at Almiron for not taking up his option. -
Florian Lejeune (now playing for Rayo Vallecano)

Is an in-form Lejeune better than an in-form Coloccini? Easy to forget how good Colo was at times for us, but I think Lejeune edges it for me. Little more classy and consistent. -
I don't think it was cramp, it was the way he landed on one leg just before staying down the first time. Surprised the commentators didn't notice it and kept on repeating the cramp thing.
-
Reckon he was just brought in as back up for now tbf, and his early injury won't have helped matters given the need for consistency in his position. The other options they have are far more experienced too, in Pepe and Felipe, both of whom have been playing well by all accounts.

Sarri's probably gonna smoke Kepa through his stashed bucket set in the changers.

We'd smash these two

Lejeune, Lascelles and one other.

Anyone else notice a seeming reluctance for Ritchie to pass the ball to Almiron in the first half? I counted 4/5 time where there was an easy pass to Almiron in space on the left and Ritchie ignored him time and time again to cut inside. It's just strange that then later in the game Almiron took a shot from inside the box, and the overlapping Ritchie turned and screamed at him to pass when he hadn't passed to him all game... Probably reading too far into it but it seemed strange at the time of watching. -
Wish his shot went in man Ridiculous strike!

Talk will be all about Almiron, but Perez looked just as good today. He will start to look even better with Almiron around him every week, they look like they will link up very well. Excited about this. -

Him & Perez linking up man Perez has needed someone like him badly. Both were fantastic today. -
Today should be all about Almiron who was very good, but it's all about this lad yet again. Faultless.

Really, really enjoyable game. Longstaff MOTM again. And it's not of those meritless 'he's young and was decent/held his own' MOTM's, it's because he's the classiest, most composed player on the pitch yet again. Incredible talent we have. Well done Sean. Early Michael Carrick comparisons are beginning to look very, very fitting.

Probably not far off this, although I think Barreca or Dummett will be included in the match day squad, with some minutes later on in the game perhaps. Forgot all about Dummett Lest we forget. Lovely guy, is Paul. Anyway, really excited for the team announcement. What a difference the prospect of a player like Almiron and a nearly fully fit squad makes.

Burnley All-Whites making a bloody dull time of my early afternoon football viewing experience.
