Aye its almost been like the people running football want an independent regulator and are sabotaging things to that end. Frightening to imagine the absolute shambles they've made of things is an effort to stave that off.

Just fully expect nothing to happen and preferential treatment, even redrafting of rules to allow for it at this point. Football has normalised and legalised corruption in plain sight that would have looked an absolute elite insulating stich up even a decade ago and its now greeted like a virtue in many quarters. That's it good to have the same teams at the top indefinitely all of a sudden. Having ambition and the funds to pay for it when it comes from outside the elite is now seen being seen and absorbed as 'cheating' and something akin to a regimen of doping or multiple charges of match fixing.

Lot of these problems could be easily solved, its just that in every change of rules the advantaged clubs have to be further advantaged that makes it complicated so you get a ladder of who can spend what based on achievements made before these rules came in but after other clubs (ourselves, Everton, Villa, Leeds, Blackburn, Forest) had been displaced at the top by them, rather than a blanket spend limit.

Organic growth that any club has experienced has come through sustained success which is no longer permitted for outsiders because it requires expenditure to achieve sustained success.

We didn't get worse in isolation, but probably did compared to competitors. Though I get the long-termism of a Guehi its not an area I'd have been focusing on to the extent they did as far as this season goes but again understand the false economy in these soullessly regulated times of not spending money on positions were well stocked in even if we cant shift some of the stock we'd like to.
